**The Lab Chemist I in Clive, Utah** is responsible for performing routine chemical and physical analyses of samples to determine their properties in support of laboratory operations. This role follows established procedures, ensures compliance with Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards, and maintains a safe and compliant laboratory environment. The Lab Chemist I works under the direct supervision of senior laboratory personnel and contributes to the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of laboratory results.
**Schedule will be 40hr/wk. (4 x10 hr.). The day off will be decided after employee finishes training.**

Responsibilities
+ Perform basic chemical and physical analyses of samples in accordance with prescribed procedures and methodologies.
+ Calibrate, operate, and utilize basic laboratory instrumentation.
+ Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment under direct supervision.
+ Accurately complete all required documentation, including calibration logs, run logs, and analytical records, in a neat and timely manner.
+ Ensure all laboratory work meets applicable QA/QC guidelines and regulatory requirements.
+ Manage laboratory supplies within assigned areas, including inventory control, proper housekeeping, and best management practices.
+ Properly manage and dispose of waste generated from analytical procedures in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
+ Maintain a safe working environment by complying with all OSHA regulations and Clean Harbors Health, Safety, and Compliance protocols.
+ Work under the direct supervision of senior laboratory staff and follow direction as assigned.
+ Review applicable laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) annually and achieve satisfactory scores on required SOP quizzes.
+ Adhere to all Clean Harbors policies, procedures, and SOPs.
+ Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs.

**Education & Experience**
+ Required: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

**What role you will play in our team**

As a Lab Pack Plant Chemist, you will be receiving, identifying, and de-packing lab packs as they enter the facility.
Key Job Responsibilities
Ensure Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance by adhering to regulations, standards, and internal policies, while promoting a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.
De-pack lab pack quantities.
Perform bulk consolidation and lab pack consolidation.
Conduct daily compliance and area inspections.
Ensure proper classification, identification, packaging, and labeling of hazardous waste for transportation, treatment, and/or disposal.
Complete all regulatory paperwork to ensure environmental compliance with regulations and internal procedures.
Sample containers and in-house created materials.
Package, label, create shipping documents, load, and transport hazardous waste.
Handle material pour-offs.
Respond to spills and other emergencies.
Assist in conducting daily area inspections.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Do you have what it takes?
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent applicable work experience.
Hazardous waste experience is a plus.
Experience operating a forklift is preferred.
Successful completion of HAZWOPER training.
Must undergo an OSHA/HAZWOPER physical examination.

* Conduct total composition laboratory analysis on material and chemicals to include slag, carbon, sulfur analyzer (DOCs), desulf filtercake furnace feed samples (ICP-OES), and gravimetric moisture analysis of reverb furnace feed samples
* Calibration and control checks of refining analytical instruments (SS-OES) and probes (pH, ORP)
* Operate and check high-volume air monitors
* Assist with the establishment of operating procedures for the laboratory and other areas of the company as needed
