A cleanroom is used for conducting research or manufacturing processes that require a sterile or controlled environment, and the cleanroom technician is responsible for keeping it that way. They do this by garbing, cleaning, and maintaining the room according to CGMP practices or guidelines.

In addition to that, a cleanroom technician may also be in charge of preparing materials and equipment, testing equipment and computer programs, performing quality control tests on various solutions, and configuring PCs according to set standards or requirements.

The basic requirement for this position is a high school diploma. Apart from that, many employers look for applicants with prior experience in a hospital or manufacturing workplace. Knowledge of cleanroom procedures and CGMP regulations is a plus, but not required as these will be taught during onboarding. Furthermore, an aspiring cleanroom technician must have basic computer skills and the ability to lift at least sixty pounds.

The average salary of a cleanroom technician is between $24,000 and $33,000 a year, depending on their experience and the industry they are working in.
