The candidate must possess appropriate training and relevant work experience on electric power generation systems and industrial engines to successfully diagnose, repair, and complete technical startup of diesel and gas engines and generator sets, transfer switches, and switch gear. After hours assignments are often required to satisfy customer demands and repair time schedules. Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications: The essential functions of this position includes the following: independently diagnose and repair prime power and stand-by electrical power installations in both multiple or parallel operation; understand and have a working knowledge of automatic start and stop controls, safety shut-downs, switch gear, circuit breakers, and control panel wiring; independently and successfully diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain diesel, gas, and marine engines; perform work on generators and component parts in various environmental and working conditions; safely assemble and disassemble equipment and component parts according to the manufacturer's specifications; repair and maintain temperature control and air compression equipment; accurately complete service reports and provide the details to complete work orders; meet the Department of Transportation physical examination and licensing requirements as mandated by law; work overtime as required; and maintain tool requirements. When field electrical power generation or industrial engine work is available, the Mechanic will be dispatched to perform that work. When there is no field work, the candidate will work in the shop facility for the balance or duration of the shift. This position does not require a Commercial Driver's License. The successful candidate must complete necessary paperwork required for the Company to process a Motor Vehicle Record check and Driver Qualification File and must have a driving record acceptable to the Company. The successful candidate will be required to pass a drivers' physical and all applicable tests associated with driving a service truck; and maintain tool requirements. This position will require overtime and possibly weekend work. As a Field Mechanic you are required to work in an industrial environment which includes exposure to significant environmental conditions. This position mandates that the employee be able to perform all of the following functions: * Open & close master and sub work orders * Enter time into Time Collection System and prepare and process required paperwork * Order & distribute materials for shop personnel * Research literature * Verify, record, maintain, & submit specific service shop records * Substitute for other positions and other functions as assigned by necessity Primary Responsibilities: This position may perform any combination of the following duties: * Greet and assist customers in person or over telephone to answer questions related to parts, equipment, rebuilt items, or repairs and scheduling * Enter personnel time into time collection system and generate all required paperwork * Advise concerned parties on status of jobs * Generate internal, monthly, master and sub work orders as well as purchase orders for repairs on all equipment of the various product lines * Research part numbers from data base, and computer inventory records * Maintain up-to-date files of product catalogues and technical data * Order parts by computer for repairs from either inside or outside the Company and oversee distribution * Accept payments for services * Keep logs of repairs performed, customer calls, and parts required * Compile reports on service employees hours, repair time on customer equipment, and machine history * Initiate warranty claims and credit unused or defective parts against work orders * Schedule repair work in absence of supervision * Coordinate record keeping with sales and administrative personnel * Receive payments and credit to work order when completed * Operate basic office equipment * Perform other work related duties as required * Thorough understanding of shop practices and procedures focusing on work order processes * Knowledge of product and part inventory, diesel and gas engines * Working skills in researching and ordering of parts coupled with computer supported clerical ability * Proven ability to organize and prioritize work based on time constraints * Strong communication skills for dealing with customers and fellow employees Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications: Clerical experience in a service shop demonstrating increased responsibility and having significant exposure to the fundamentals of engines and electrical systems, or an equivalent combination of training and experience acceptable to Company. The manager oversees equipment sourcing, trade-in evaluations, reconditioning, exchange engines at the engine rebuild center, marketing, and resale to achieve revenue and margin targets. Our ideal candidate would be someone with a drive to win in both a solo and team sales environment. Details & Essential Functions: Sales & Business Development * Develop and execute strategies to grow used CAT generator and engine sales across key markets (rental, industrial, data centers, manufacturing, utilities, oil & gas, mining, and commercial standby). * Build relationships with customers, CAT dealers, rental fleets, brokers, and national accounts to expand used equipment and exchange engine opportunities. * Negotiate competitive and profitable deals involving Caterpillar gensets, industrial engines, exchange engines, enclosures, and auxiliary components. * Leverage Caterpillar's dealer systems, certifications, and brand positioning in sales strategies. * Actively source used CAT equipment through trade-ins, dealer networks, auctions, and customer buybacks. * Coordinate with internal departments to align sales efforts with operations, service, and customer support. CAT Equipment Evaluation & Inventory Management * Oversee detailed inspections and valuations of used CAT power systems, including: * CAT generator sets (diesel & natural gas) * Industrial engines (C-Series, 3000 Series, etc.) * G3500 and 3600 exchange engines * CAT EMCP controls * Switchgear, paralleling gear, and ATS units * Assess equipment condition, hours, emissions tier compliance (Tier 1-4 Final), and expected resale value based on CAT market data. * Coordinate reconditioning, repairs, and dyno/load-bank testing to Caterpillar standards. * Maintain accurate inventory records, including serial numbers, build sheets, test reports, and Product Identification Numbers (PINs).
