The Office of Nursing Research and Innovation encourages any nurse who has a research question, an idea for a research study, or an innovative process, system or device to come forward and pursue their ideas. Oftentimes, the most important ideas for research are those generated by clinicians who provide direct patient care. Mentorship is available by Nurse Scientists who are PhD-prepared nurses with experience in nursing research and providing guidance and support to facilitate the conduct, translation and dissemination of research and evidence-based nursing practices.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday in-person at Main Campus. A hybrid schedule, 3 days working remotely at home in Northeast Ohio and 2 days working in-person at Main Campus, may be a possibility.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
* Meet goals regarding evidence-based nursing practices, research and innovative solutions.
* Meet protégée needs for research advancement (PCIO, design/implement/analysis and dissemination/translation into practice).
* Support grant development and submission and IRM, OSR and CCR correspondence/activities.
* Be an educator, coach and co-investigator.
* Collaborate to meet Nursing Institute and Office on Research and Innovation goals/strategic activity management.
* Work collaboratively with Div. Clinical Research, OSR, IRB, Law Department, Lerner Research Institute and Research Compliance office to assure optimal activities/expectations.
* Demonstrate leadership and professional relationships with national nursing organizations, local colleges with doctorate programs, etc.
* Identify and guide others in optimal evidence/best practices/systems of care related to mentoring Institutes.
* Initiate and facilitate relationships with funding agencies, nursing organizations, foundations, local colleges with master's and doctoral nursing programs, and corporations.
* Demonstrate progression in dissemination of new research and innovation evidence by developing/guiding papers for self/mentees in high-tiered peer-review journals (minimum 2/year- 1st author and 1 as mentor) and presenting at national meetings (minimum, 2 per year) on relevant topics to hospital/ ambulatory care processes, outcomes, systems, interventions and operational efficiencies, and research involving novel interventions.
* Ensure that oneself and nurses/teams being mentored follow policies and procedures related to confidentiality, research compliance and research contracts, budgeting, etc.
* Serve as a consultant to external nurse scientists, corporations, and government agencies.
* Serve on Nursing Institute and non-CCF (external) committees.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* A research-based doctorate in nursing (PhD or DNSc) or a related field (SCD, EdD, etc.) with a completed research dissertation.
* State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
* At least three years clinical experience as a staff nurse, CNS or clinical faculty.
* Research experience with multiple research designs/methods and evidence of publication of findings.
* Received previous extramural grant funding.
* Qualified for faculty appointment with collegiate partners.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
* Escalating publication experience (research/reviews) in peer-reviewed journals as 1st author.
* Invited podium presentations at location/national meetings.

Performance Improvement & Change Management

Works with diverse interdisciplinary teams composed of subject matter experts across the UH System. Evaluates “Best Practice” benchmarks and best practice model examples, recommending strategic implementation at the entity. Analyzes data to measure current process performance to best practices to identify, quantify and prioritize PI opportunities and efforts. Evaluate waste versus value-added activities based on Voice of the Customer (VOC) service needs and expectations. Review care of patients (concurrent and retrospective) to assess for complications of care and adherence to published practice standards. Liaison with the physicians, nurses and ancillary staff regarding Quality and Patient Safety, and other quality/risk initiatives, including publically reported indicators. Attends departmental meetings, as assigned, to serve as Quality Institute representative and subject matter expert. Develops, as requested, quality & safety presentations as assigned for presentation to a variety of audiences. Performs tracer activity to assure compliance with all regulatory standards. Serves as preceptor, coach and mentor to staff regarding performance improvement and other quality initiatives. Communicates opportunities for improvement to unit/departmental leadership as identified. Facilitates communication with leadership on organizational opportunities for improvement at unit or department level.
Clinical Risk
Leads an effective effort within the organization to identify and mitigate clinical risk and reduce patient harm. Leads, in conjunction with Manager and Quality Institute Leadership, to develop priorities as it impacts Clinical Risk Management. Maintains a continuous process for identification of adverse outcomes and complications. Coordinates with Law Department to assure Risk Management issues are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner. Leads Performance Improvement activity related improvement of patient safety and reduction of adverse events. Data management including collection, entry, trending and analysis to support performance improvement. Ability to summarize and analyze clinical and operational data, develop summary reports, charts, and graphs, trend outcomes, and identifies opportunities for improvement from the data analyses.
Collaborates with Manager and Quality Institute Leadership to develop annual priorities as it impacts Patient Safety. Maintain an effective Patient Safety Program for this facility based on the current priorities. Leads Performance Improvement activity related initiatives to positively impact Patient Safety and Reduction of Adverse Events. Proactively identifies best practices and process redesign to improve patient safety.
Accreditation & Regulatory Compliance
Coordinates organization wide continuous accreditation readiness and continuous regulatory compliance, including a proactive tracer program. Creates and maintains data collection to support and drive accreditation functions. Organizes and actively participates in process improvement initiatives to improve compliance with accreditation standards. Under direction of manager / administrator disseminates data and feedback on compliance with accreditation standards to all stakeholders. Participates with UH Accreditation team to enhance monitoring, promote needed practice changes and improve compliance system wide. Is actively engaged in review of updates to accreditation standards (DNV, CMS, TJC, & Specialty) and timely communication of changes to involved stakeholders. Shares regulatory (DNV/TJC/ODH/CMS) communications. Provides feedback as required to DNV/TJC via secure site.
Infection Prevention Nurse
Perform infection surveillance, analysis, interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAIs). Act as a resource for Employee Health program working collaboratively to review and investigate potential employee Infection Control Issues and maintain compliance with federal, state and city health codes, regulations and agencies including the Ohio Department of Health, OSHA and CMS. Monitor and analyze patient care practices. Actively participate in infection reduction initiatives in order to prevent and reduce HAIs. Conduct education and ongoing in-service programs for multi-disciplinary health care teams. Assure compliance with policy and procedure to ensure standards that meet DNV, TJC, OSHA, CMS, ODH, CDC standards, recommendations and requirements. Maintain knowledge of current guidelines, regulations and best practices relating to infection prevention. The Graduate Nurse position provides a transitional role for graduate nurses to begin orienting while waiting to pass the NCLEX and fully function as a Registered Nurse. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ A research-based doctorate in Nursing (PhD or DNSc) or a related field (SCD, EdD, etc.) with a completed research dissertation
+ State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
+ At least three years of experience as a Nurse Scientist I or a related role
+ Extensive research experience with multiple research designs/methods and evidence of publication of findings
+ Previous recipient of extramural grant funding
+ Qualified for faculty appointment with collegiate partners
+ Possessing an enthusiasm for teaching, facilitating workshops, presenting research to diverse audiences and growing your own program of research
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Escalating publication experience (research/reviews) in peer-reviewed journals as 1st author
+ Invited podium presentations at location/national meetings
+ Being a self-starter, collaborative, possessing ability to manage multiple projects at any given time, and enjoy mentoring others
+ Desire to grow in research designs and study and analysis methods to assure high quality research and enjoy collaborating with nursing teams and internal and external multidisciplinary leaders

**Physical Requirements:**
+ Requires extensive sitting/dexterity to perform PC work.
+ Requires the ability to walk to other parts of CC to attend meetings and the ability to drive to Northeast Ohio Cleveland Clinic hospitals, regional medical practices/ambulatory care centers, local colleges and corporate sites; in some cases, may require carrying or pushing weight assoc. with paperwork and/or clinical devices used in the conduct of research, including early morning or late evening/many locations
+ Must have normal or corrected vision and the ability to listen attentively and verbally communicate to employees, patients and lay public who may be involved in research.
+ Sedentary Work; Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of time)

+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
**Pay Range**
Minimum Annual Salary: $118,960.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $190,360.00
