    Cleveland Clinic Florida's Integrated Hospital Care Institute, Department of Pulmonary Critical Care is seeking a combination of outpatient pulmonary medicine as well as inpatient pulmonary and critical care responsibilities at our Cleveland Clinic Weston location. The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care is part of the Integrated Hospital Care Institute, the first of its kind in the country, with close collaboration across the Florida region and Ohio. The Integrated Hospital Care Institute includes Pulmonary and Critical Care, along with Hospital Medicine, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine and Infectious Diseases divisions. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with a collegial and collaborative group of 14 physicians, 10 fellows and 3 NPs. The physician would be expected to share responsibilities in general pulmonology and critical care unit (24 bed ICU). The position involves research (several active clinical trials in advanced lung diseases) and teaching (pulmonary-critical fellows, medical residents and medical students). BC/BE in pulmonary and critical care medicine is required. Discusses findings and anesthetic plan with anesthesiologist before induction of anesthesia. Reviews patient's condition with anesthesiologist immediately prior to induction of anesthesia. This includes changes in patient's condition, review of administration of any pre-anesthesia medication, selection of anesthetic agent and technique. Pretests and calibrates anesthesia delivery systems. Administers anesthetic drugs, adjuvant drugs and accessory drugs. Assists anesthesiologist with the implementation of medically accepted monitoring techniques, epidural anesthetic procedures, spinal anesthetic procedures and other regional anesthetic techniques. Recognizes and takes appropriate action for abnormal patient responses during anesthesia, including resuscitation, until patient regains control of vital functions. Administers blood, blood products and supportive fluids. Provides post-anesthesia recovery care to the patient for as long as necessary, keeping anesthesiologist informed as to the patient's progress. Displays title of Anesthesiology Assistant as a means of identifying the individual's authority to practice. Other duties as assigned. Education: A baccalaureate or higher degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by an organization recognized by the board of regents. Completion of an anesthesiologist assistant training program that has been accredited by the commission on accreditation of allied health education programs, or equivalent. A caregiver in this role works days from 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. with rotating weekend and holiday requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: * Conduct quality laboratory testing and result reporting. * Accurately identify each patient's specimen and testing orders and ensure results are accurate and reported in a timely manner. * Ensure specimen integrity and identification and resolve specimens not meeting testing criteria. * Identify and resolve pending specimen results from laboratory information system for assigned departments. * Report pertinent information to the physician, patient care area or supervisor (e.g., panic values, instrument malfunctions, delay in testing, reagent or supply depletion). * Note "dates opened" and "expiration dates" and use reagents and controls only to their expiration dates. * Maintain cleanliness, organization and stock of work area. * Follow troubleshooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur with instruments and equipment. * Ensure instrument operation and results are reliable and perform maintenance checks, startups, and shutdowns as assigned or required. * Answer the telephone, greet customers and provide consultation and technical support to the physicians, phlebotomists and nursing staff. * Follow quality control policy and ensure controls are within acceptable limits before patient results are reported. * Document quality control and out of range results in an appropriate manner. Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: * Associate's Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Medical Technology or equivalent * Licensed in the State of Florida at the technologist levels * One or more specialties in Microbiology, Immunohematology or all licenses Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: * Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Medical Technology * One year of clinical experience * American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification * Blood bank experience Physical Requirements: * This position involves turning, stooping, bending, stretching, walking and standing. * The average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds. * Sitting for short periods of time, the ability to file, move records, laboratory supplies, and equipment are also required physical duties. * Communication by means of the spoken, written and typed word is required. * Work requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level. * Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers. * Special Demands: Use of personal protective equipment is required as there is a potential for exposure to biohazardous or infectious agents when drawing and processing specimens. * Confidentiality: The employee has access to the entire medical record for the purpose of charting and correcting laboratory results AND review of physician orders. * The access is limited to the amount reasonably necessary to achieve the purpose of the laboratory testing request. * The disclosure or requests that occur on a routine or recurring basis include patient demographics, condition and laboratory results.
