At times, assist the physicians in the procedure rooms with various tasks, sedation, and utilizing sterile techniques as deemed appropriate. Responsible for providing total comprehensive patient care to patients emerging from general anesthesia and/or sedation. Responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient and family in preparation for discharge. JOB SUMMARY The Research RN, NCHRI works directly with the physician in accurately and professionally executing all clinical research projects in an acute care/inpatient setting (ED, Cath Lab, ICU, EP lab, Step down and OR) as well as the ambulatory and ancillary areas. Protocol driven research tasks performed by the physician are guided by the Research Nurse to assure all required steps are completed and performed in the correct order. This position manages the research related care of these patients, assists in project initiation, facilitates patient enrollment, encourages patient retention in trials, reports to sponsors on progress/status, and coordinates study participation with other clinical care plans. The Research RN must possess the knowledge and clinical experience to work in many different areas with numerous teams in order to experience success in this position. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Qualifications All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date. All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire. Graduate of a nursing program Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program preferred, but not required. One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is preferred. Cardiothoracic OR RN experience strongly preferred. Minimum 1-2 years of recent RN scrub experience required. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills. Current RN license by applicable state requirements. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
