Principal Responsibilities


Acts as an agent of change to help promote organizational adoption of clinical applications and its related workflows to optimize patient safety and experience. Acts as a liaison between clinical and information technology staff teams in leveraging the use of technology in clinical practice. Participates in the design, build, implementation, and training of new providers or practices for clinical applications, including EMR, Radiology Information Systems, Laboratory Information Systems, etc. Evaluating existing systems and identify problem areas. Develop strategies and best practices to incorporate into future information systems and policies. Evaluate operational and clinical processes and recommend and implement improvements. Participate in upgrade planning, testing, validating and implementing for clinical information systems. Develop, create, and conduct performance-based application training courses that meet the requirements of the end-user based on best practice recommendations. Must have a proven ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with management and peers on issues, risks, opportunities, and general progress towards business goals. Ensures information systems policies, procedures, and technologies comply with applicable laws and regulations. Conducts analysis of clinical and organizational needs. Identifies, designs, and evaluates clinical information systems and applications design that supports those identified requirements. Ability to use appropriate skills in the areas of: project coordination, multi-tasking, prioritization of demands, group discussion, training, facilitation, decision-making, communication, and time management. Provide training and technical support to clinical users before and during application activation events and or the adoption of a new workflow. Support organizational QA activities by assisting other information technology teams with verification and validation of any new application build and modification. Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures. Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy. Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards. Perform other job duties as assigned.


Education/Experience


RN, LPN or other equivalent clinical related discipline is required. Bachelor's degree preferred A minimum of 3 years of experience supporting clinical applications within the healthcare sector. Demonstrated experience in consulting and training and development; system implementation, and requirements gathering is beneficial.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


An established proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Demonstrated professionalism, both in appearance and etiquette. Conscientious with issues related to security and privacy. Detail-oriented, a self-starter, and an outstanding team player who can execute tasks with quality and efficiency. General Summary:

The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) is responsible for participating in the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of assigned Clinical Information Systems across the system. The CIS works to optimize the clinical design to meet the needs of a large group of interdisciplinary end users, including physicians, nurses, respiratory care practitioners, ancillary, clinical and administrative staff.The CIS will participate in the integration of the clinical teams supporting clinical applications through establishment of standards, methodologies and workflow transformation.Participates in the design of the clinical application education program and is responsible for the accuracy of the training content.Uses a system focus to contribute to clinical process discussions and works to achieve system-wide consensus.

Requirements:

Minimum of two years working in a clinical setting preferred 3 to 5 years' experience implementing clinical information systems and/or advanced computer skills preferred. Must have high school diploma Associate or bachelor degree preferred. Must have at least one Epic certification or obtain Epic certification within 6 months of employment. Must be able to exhibit excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all work products, ensuring project documentation is up to date and distributed to all key stakeholders. Must have the ability to communicate technical issues to nontechnical audiences. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of redesigning clinical processes to improve efficiency and patient care, preferably in conjunction with the implementation of a clinical information system. Functions as a clinical informatics system expert, including but not limited to, technical building of the clinical system through data entry. Collaborates with hospital leadership, clinical informatics manager, physician liaisons, and IT leadership to optimize clinical systems and processes to promote efficient, cost effective and meaningful use of the electronic health system Participates in the development of clinical informatics protocols, policies, procedures, and quality metrics; and works to assure compliance with regulations. Perform analysis and contribute to the reengineering of intermediate workflows and identify opportunities for system enhancement and optimization utilizing identified change management process. Provide leadership and guidance to project team and prioritize scheduled tasks to maintain project scope. Understands and articulates the connection and links between and throughout department work related to Epic and other clinical applications. Coordinate with Epic and technical personnel to troubleshoot, maintain, and implement intermediateand enterprise-wide infrastructure technologies. Review new software releases and updates to determine which features will be utilized. Prioritize enhancement and system change requests 2nd tier application support for the clinical community, serving as the escalation point for system issues.
