Clinical informatics strategist job description

The Clinical Informatics (CI) serves as a liaison between the hospital's clinical areas and the IT department. S/he collaborates with staff, physicians and stakeholders to optimize the usage of clinical systems by providing moderately complex system education and training, build/maintenance, quality outcomes, and providing support in accordance with organizational goals. The CI assists in the development of policies and procedures for the usage of clinical information systems. S/he promotes the integration between clinical areas and IT regarding the development and translation of business needs with consideration of the impact that new or modified clinical information systems have on patient confidentiality and privacy. The CI may apply their knowledge of the Health Information Exchange for ambulatory and hospital data integration and may collaborate with Business intelligence for reporting results and/or progress of clinical systems initiatives for process improvement.
Responsibilities
Project Management
* Manages complex projects, providing quality assurance, and information systems design expertise.
* Analyses the needs and requirements for clinical applications in acute and ambulatory healthcare settings.
* Provides leadership for clinical systems projects and initiatives.
* Evaluate business process changes and IT enhancements to ensure the success and optimization of new or modified clinical information systems.

Data Integrity
* Coordinates the collection and analysis of metrics that relate to benefits realization and the return on investment in clinical information systems.
* Manages, builds, and assesses workflow need.
* Manages the impact that new or modified clinical information systems have on patient confidentiality and privacy.
* Monitors system performance and compliance with EMR recommended standards, and report to IT and impacted departments when anomalies, errors, inaccuracies, or inefficiencies occur.
* Maps real-life nursing practices to information applications.

Education
* Trains, educates, builds and instructs clinical users on features, operation, and usage of software systems.
* Trains physicians and staff to adopt new workflows and tools utilizing change management methods.

Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in nursing and/or other clinical healthcare fields- Required
Cerner Fundamentals Class completion- Required within 6 months from date of hire

Master's Degree in nursing and/or other clinical healthcare fields- Preferred

MHA or MBA or doctorate- Preferred
Certificates and Licensure
Current RN license in the state of Arizona- Preferred

LEAN Six Sigma or Influencer training- Preferred

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of direct work experience in an acute/ambulatory setting- Required

Apply for an Informaticist- Clinical opening at IU Health! The hours will be M-F approximately 8a-4:30p with some on call rotation and sometimes off hours due to go-live support. This will be located onsite in Muncie at Ball Memorial Hospital with 1 remote day per week. This role will be part of the Informatics and Information Services department within the Clinical Informatics, East Central Region team!

IU Health is looking for someone with an interest in learning inpatient and ambulatory clinical informatics. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, takes initiative, has good teambuilding skills, works well in small teams, and has an interest in teaching providers and other healthcare team members.

Other duties include but not limited to support the decision-making of healthcare consumers, nurses, and other professionals in all roles and settings to achieve healthcare consumer safety and advocacy. Supports data analytics, including quality of care measures, to improve population health outcomes and global health. Utilizes process improvement and change management skills to promote improved quality and process efficiencies through technology. Considers the impact of technological changes on patient safety, health-care delivery, quality reporting and the nursing process. Assists with the design and promotion of useful, innovative information technologies that advance practice and achieve desired outcomes.
Bachelor's degree required, RN preferred (preferred experience in surgery and OB setting).

* Clinical credentials/licensure and current Indiana licensure required.
* 3-5 years of clinical experience required.
* Experienced user of health information technology systems preferred.

+ The Clinical Informaticist functions as a knowledgeable clinical practitioner while managing and supporting hospital, homecare, and rehab-based clinical systems designed to support clinical practice. Clinical systems include but is not limited to: electronic medical record, patient care documentation, order entry, bar code medication administration, home medication lists, physician documentation, OB fetal surveillance, pharmacy automation system, critical care monitor interface, and the Cardiac Cath Lab hemodynamic system. Management and support of clinical systems include: requirements analysis, planning systems selection, project management, development of detailed implementation plans, coordination of resources, process transformation, communication to management, system design, testing, configuration, user education, implementation and on-going support of clinical information systems. Provides input in strategic planning, software selection and configuration.

+ Education: Baccalaureate Degree.

+ Experience: Five (5) years recent experience in multiple clinical settings; history of collaborative working relationships with multiple Hospital disciplines managing IT related clinical projects. Experience with project management.
