Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
MLS/ASCP certification or equivalent such as ASCP, AMT, HEW, or AAB. If there is no current U.S. certification, it must be obtained within one year. Individuals with specialty certification may only work in the discipline of their specialty.
Students may be hired at the job title equivalent to their future certification under the following conditions: The student is enrolled in a clinically recognized program (MLS), the Student's Clinical rotation in the core area must be completed before working in that core area, and the student must complete the program and pass the certification test within one year of hire.
Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills and a high level of self-motivation. Communicates effectively in oral and written formats sufficient to demonstrate comprehension. Use of mathematics, the performance of detailed work, working with frequent interruptions, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and memorization; ability to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly.

Provide support to other lab staff when there is a test in question for send out specimen.
Maintain appropriate communication and good interpersonal skills with manager, staff, and providers, to ensure coordinated efforts and provision of high-quality service.
Communicate directly with the department supervisor or manager to report concerns, personal requests, and patient issues.
Maintain an orderly and professional working environment.
Report to work properly dressed according to approved dress code.

Assist in management of the laboratory and provide clinical services in accordance with KANA's mission, policies, and procedures while applying standards of CLIA, CMS, and the Laboratory profession's best practices. Demonstrate leadership and support clinical staff in their work direction. Provide expert level clinical medical technology testing services performing all areas involved in pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic testing. Oversee maintenance of policies and procedures as technical consultant of the laboratory complying with all regulatory requirements.

* Ensure assigned staff complete training, competency, tests, and proficiency testing in all areas hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, serology, etc. Ensure documentation is maintained per CMS retention requirements.
* Select test methodology appropriate for clinical use of test result, verify test procedures performed, accuracy of each test and test system as it pertains to the specialty assigned reporting and maintaining records following guidelines for Panic Value results and STAT requests.
* Establish a quality control (QC) program appropriate for the testing performed with parameters for acceptable levels of performance, ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout specimen analysis and monitor test analysis and specimen examinations through evaluation of QC records.
* Resolve technical problems, monitor test analysis and specimen examination through evaluation of proficiency testing and ensure that remedial action is taken and communicated to all testing personnel when necessary
* Participate in facilitating patient education throughout the Laboratory experience, reinforcing patient's continued health care through teaching and/or referral to community agency follow-up
* Ensure the ongoing maintenance of a safe and productive work environment.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or relevant Science Degree that is nationally registered or licensed as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent. Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing situations, developing, and implementing appropriate solutions; must be able to effectively and efficiently make decisions independently. Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician, under general supervision of the Laboratory Director, performs and analyzes complex laboratory tests on un'ina samples (blood, tissues, and fluids) to provide crucial data for disease diagnosis and treatment. The Technician's duties include operating and maintaining high-precision equipment, ensuring test accuracy through quality control, data record keeping, interpreting results, and communicating findings to providers and healthcare teams. The Medical Laboratory Technician maintains proficient phlebotomy skills across the life span, able to work independently and employ critical thinking skills demonstrated by competent troubleshooting abilities. The Technician is required to stay updated on advancements in laboratory techniques to improve patient outcomes. The Medial Laboratory Technician is required to work three (3) scheduled days per month and be available for additional short notice call in.
Essential Functions
Performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic assessment on all un'ina testing to ensure sample suitability and integrity, evaluate accuracy and precision of test results
Demonstrates competency for all test procedures performed at Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC) Laboratory through adherence to established policies and procedures for all laboratory testing processes
Reviews quality control data to identify analytic discrepancies, troubleshoot and document remedial action taken when test systems deviate from established performance guidelines, resolve inconsistencies to ensure un'ina results are within allowable ranges before release from laboratory information system (LIS)
Reports test results, identify results that are abnormal and communicate values to un'ina's provider following established laboratory documentation protocol, submit reportable infectious disease information to the State of Alaska public health department or other designated officials
Maintains laboratory equipment and analyzers to ensure quality control measures meet CLIA regulations
Performs assigned proficiency, competency, and continuing education within established timelines
Trains new employees, Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC) staff, and laboratory science students, and provide remedial training as needed
Collaborates with Laboratory Director in preparation for laboratory inspection from regulatory agencies, such as clinical staff competency assessments and writing laboratory protocols
Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance
