Position Summary This is a time-limited staff position being funded through a UNC System Office initiative. Continued employment is subject to funding availability. This role has an 11-months per year appointment period. The School of Nursing Lab Coordinator coordinates and manages the skills lab and simulation center. This position collaborates with School of Nursing (SON) faculty to plan and implement student learning experiences in lab and simulation settings. These experiences are an important aspect of the pre-licensure nursing curriculum and are essential to meet the program and student needs. The person in this position will have a primary presence on the Cullowhee, NC campus working with main focus on prelicensure nursing students and faculty. The successful candidate will report to the Director of the School of Nursing, working closely with faculty, to coordinate the activities of the simulation and skills laboratory, oversee the operation of low, medium, and high fidelity technology, ensure safe and effective use of the simulation equipment, and maintain an inventory of supplies, equipment, and learning resources. The Lab Coordinator will have opportunities to work with faculty to provide students the opportunity to practice clinical and decision-making skills in a safe environment. Generalized responsibilities include: 1. Create and maintains a respectful and professional working environment, incorporating active learning, reflective thinking, and a confidential debriefing process. 2. Maintain confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or College information as required. 3. Work collaboratively with faculty in scheduling the skills and simulation labs. 4. Prepare lab set up for lab and simulation learning activities and practice in coordination with the prelicensure faculty. 5. Orient students to the clinical lab environment as needed. 6. Support faculty and students in lab activities and simulation exercises using low, mid and high-fidelity human patient simulators. 7. Work with faculty to provide clinical lab and simulation debriefing and reflection. 8. Serve as a resource mentor for remediation of students identified by faculty. 9. Assist as needed to maintain records of student attendance and skill performance in the laboratory. 10. Collaborate with SON faculty to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, complies with college health and safety policies, practices, and programs. 11. Collaborate on ordering and maintaining inventory of all lab supplies and equipment. 12. Contribute to lab and simulation budget recommendations 13. Maintain lab and simulation equipment, to include upkeep and maintenance schedules. 14. Monitor and assures appropriate standards of lab cleanliness, provides for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement. 15. Assist with contacting community agencies to schedule student clinical placements, as schedule allows. 16. Collaborates with the Director of the School of Nursing and faculty to accomplish the mission and goals of the School of Nursing. Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position * Knowledge of Nursing Education and Simulation Practices: Understanding of nursing curricula, clinical skills, and simulation methodologies, including the use of low, medium, and high-fidelity simulators to enhance student learning experiences. * Technical Proficiency with Simulation Equipment: Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various simulation technologies and equipment, ensuring their effective use in educational settings. * Strong Communication and Collaboration Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work with faculty, students, and external partners, fostering a collaborative environment that supports student learning and faculty needs. * Organizational and Time Management Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, including scheduling lab activities, maintaining inventory, and coordinating with faculty, while ensuring a safe and organized lab environment. * Commitment to Professional Development and Continuous Improvement: Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development related to nursing education, simulation technology, and best practices in teaching and learning, as well as the ability to mentor and support students in their clinical skills development. Job Description We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Materials Laboratory Technician to join our team of construction professionals. As a Materials Laboratory Technician, you will be assigned to one or more Materials Testing Laboratories and be responsible for sampling and testing construction materials including, aggregate, concrete, soils, asphalt, and other relevant construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards and quality requirements. The role is laboratory focused, requiring accuracy consistency and adherence to safety and testing protocols. The role may require occasional field sample pickup or delivery. Work will be fast paced with deadlines tied to construction schedules. Technicians are exposed to dust, noise, chemicals, and varying material types (appropriate PPE provided). You will have the opportunity to advance your skillset through on-the-job training as well as attendance at certification classes. Key Responsibilities Duties will include but may not be limited to: Laboratory Testing: Conduct routine and advanced laboratory tests on soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, masonry, and related materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and NCDOT standards. Prepare test specimens (e.g., molding concrete cylinders, compacting soil samples) for strength, durability, and performance testing. Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as sieves, balances, ovens, compression machines, and moisture/density testing devices. Quality Assurance & Compliance: Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and accuracy in all test results. Record, analyze, and validate test data against project specifications and regulatory requirements. Identify non-conformances and assist in troubleshooting material deficiencies. Documentation & Reporting: Generate clear and concise inspection reports and other pertinent documentation, including test reports and observations Maintain detailed and accurate test records, logs, and laboratory notebooks. Prepare daily test reports and summaries for internal review and client submission. Use laboratory software systems to enter and manage test data. Convey non-compliant materials to supervisor or Project Engineer and initiate further reviews or testing.
