Recognizes and documents poor instrument performance and takes appropriate action independently. Verifies specimen labeling, integrity and suitability before performing testing. Accurately performs low, medium and high complexity testing procedures according to established protocols and regulatory requirements. Reports test results accurately and appropriately. Reports critical test results to physician, nursing station or physician office according to established protocol. Performs phlebotomy when needed according to laboratory policies and procedures. Monitors supply inventory and take appropriate action to ensure that needed supplies are readily available. Reviews work performed by clinical laboratory assistants. Performs corrective actions if required. Performs expected tasks without direction of supervisor. Ensures accuracy of work being reported by assigned department. Reports any suspected or witnessed instances of verbal, mental, or physical abuse to licensed staff immediately. Utilizes safe transfer techniques when assisting residents with mobility. Responds to emergencies in a prompt and calm manner; Immediately reports such emergencies to the charge nurse and/or Wellness Director. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries Apply aseptic techniques in daily workload Maintain media and reagents as needed for daily microbiological testing Inventory and report expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements Provide routine preventive maintenance by daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal Perform quality control monitoring by taking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc. Independently pursue an assigned series of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with FSNS policies/procedures and customer requirements Maintain laboratory condition, to include equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner Share information in an open, and timely manner Assisting with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Net Services Team Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area Responsible for the completion of required training MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or GED Associate degree in Life Science or two years of laboratory experience, preferred Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratory Ability to travel is preferred Or equivalent combination of education and experience PHYSICAL DEMANDS Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other communications/computer components Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens Noise level varies from quiet to loud Temperature varies from hot to cold Interactive and fast-paced team oriented tasks Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. JOB SUMMARY: The Lab Technician is responsible for assisting with the processing of fluid samples received to include oil and coolants and assisting with interpreting and communication of results to customers and product support personnel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Organizes and prepares samples for daily testing to ensure samples are processed within 24 hours of receipt Performs metal (ICP), fuel and coolant (GC), water, viscosity, IR, particles test, physical tests on oil samples. Ensures oil lab equipment is clean and in good working condition. Performs maintenance on lab equipment as necessary Ensures lab is clean at all times. Performs coolant testing daily. Interprets sample results the same day as processes. Sends out oil sample results to customers and other departments within 24 hours. Prepares equipment each night for next day's samples. Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, calibrate machines to keep them clean and running properly. Adheres to all customer care standards. Actively cares and advocates safety at Western States. Adhere to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards. May accomplish training and serve as a team member in support of Western States' strategic programs, projects, and initiatives. Works within and promotes corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of computer and Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of lab test equipment preferred. Working knowledge of sample interpretation preferred. Knowledge of heavy equipment components. Working analytical and technical knowledge. Must be able to multi-task. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others. Consistent attendance. Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). One year similar lab experience preferred. Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English). PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Some exposure to fumes. Must be able to handle repetitive motion. Must be able to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting. The Crisis Medical Technician will participate in the client's healthcare education and provide direct oversight to personnel who provide medical care to clients experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The staff at our Crisis Center work as part of an interdisciplinary team focusing on crisis intervention skills to de-escalate, treat and stabilize behavioral health needs of individuals.
