Job Description:
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner. Job is complex and requires that employee have good organization skills and is able to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by client. The SPT I must have to the ability learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis. This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the SPT I is required. The SPT I will be exposed to many different demands made by the customer. Majority of SPT I work on the nightshift but based on staffing needs, weekends, holidays, on call and overtime availability is a requirement.
Department is a production environment, with emphasis on productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times. Position requires data background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour. Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits. Able to sit or stand for long periods. Communicates effectively with all levels of staff. Adheres to core values, safety and compliance policies and procedures. Keeps work area neat and clean. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.

Education: HS diploma or equivalent.

Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required. Previous experience in a production environment preferred.

THE ROLE: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
AHA's Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a full range of laboratory testing and reporting laboratory findings to physicians. AHA's MLT must meet the Personnel Responsibilities per CLIA Sec. 493.1495: Standard Testing Personnel Responsibilities. AHA's MLT must follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance. Can identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Produce and report appropriate laboratory results in hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, automated chemistry, and automated immunology.
Perform, interpret, and record quality control data in all departments.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on instrumentation as prescribed in procedures.
Perform inventory and maintain department supplies.

What You'll Do
As a Medical Technologist /Histocompatibility Technologist, you will directly contribute to LifeLink's life-saving mission.
Under supervision, learns and perform all histocompatibility assays required for complete assessment of patients and donors for transplantation. Rotates on-call duty to ensure laboratory services are continually available.
Key Responsibilities:
Completes specialty training under the direct supervision of senior histocompatibility technologists and supervisors. Learns the principles of procedures and techniques currently used.
Receives, logs, bills and prepares specimens for analysis, including stat blood and tissue samples from patients and deceased donors.
Performs assigned laboratory procedures according to written protocols including HLA-ABC and DR Typing, ABO/Rh Typing, antibody screening by current methodologies, aliquoting and filing sera, crossmatching, and infectious disease testing. Performs those identified and cleared on the Histocompatibility Technologist Training Record and/or Competency Assessment Summary.
Operates instruments according to established protocols. Prepares and uses proper standards and controls with each procedure necessary to determine proper performance of instruments, reagents, and tests.
Rotates on-call duties with other technologists. Carries a cell phone at all times when on call, responds to calls within 15 minutes of contact and must be able to report to work within 1 hour to perform histocompatibility and infectious disease assays under stat conditions.
Effectively communicates and documents on-call event timelines and test results.
Checks all results and computer data entry for accuracy and reports results promptly to supervisor(s) and coordinators.
Practices confidentiality and follows all safety precautions, rules and regulations as specified by LifeLink and laboratory policies.
Participates in continuing education and proficiency testing programs.

What Nuclear Manufacturing contributes to Cardinal Health
Nuclear Manufacturing is responsible for the manufacturing of time sensitive radiopharmaceuticals in an integrity driven, highly regulated environment (i.e. FDA, NRC, DOT) to support patient treatment through disease diagnosis, staging, and monitoring.
The primary work environment consists of a cyclotron and associated manufacturing facility for the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals, which must be kept clean, orderly, properly lighted and maintained in optimum operating condition. Employees handle radioactive materials and are exposed to very low amounts of radiation that are deemed safe by current standards. The facility is operated under well-controlled and closely monitored conditions that are regulated by both State and Federal agencies, and that are enforced by the corporate internal quality and regulatory group. Each staff member will receive specific training in keeping radiation exposures within regulatory guidelines and he/she will be routinely monitored for their exposure to radiation. Noise levels are considered low to moderate.

Successfully complete extensive training, including e-learning assignments and hands on components, to demonstrate and maintain proficiency
Manufactures radioactive isotopes (includes synthesis set up, hot cell manipulations, distribution)
Conducts quality control testing of each batch (utilizing gas chromatograph, dose calibrator, multi-channel analyzer, TLC plate scanner, high pressure liquid chromatograph, analytical balance, PTS, laminar flow hood and fume hood)
Works in ISO 7 cleanroom to make product vials and customer vials for use in drug production
Performs environmental and personnel monitoring in ISO 5, ISO 7, and ISO 8 environments
Coordinates daily production run schedule based on customer and pharmacy needs
Demonstrates strong documentation practices, oral communication, and writing skills. Performs clerical and administrative tasks, including maintenance of daily production records, report preparation and maintenance records
Manages SAP Inventory (includes receiving materials, properly inspecting materials for use, and maintaining proper cycle counts)
Performs daily radiation safety tasks, along with general lab cleaning
Schedule
40 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday with a rotation shift that can start anywhere between the hours of 9:00p and 1:00a for an 8 hour day. Candidate must be flexible to work different days, hours and schedules based on business need.
Pay rate: $22.00 per hour

Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred
Education in sciences preferred
Lab experience highly preferred
Must be able to work overnight shift (Facility operates at night.)
Prior experience in manufacturing, preferably in a controlled environment and/or regulated industry desired.
Effective written and verbal English communication skills required

Test and analyze products to determine strength, stability, purity, chemical content, and other characteristics.
Document results of test and analysis accurately and neatly on written worksheet and computer hardcopy
Prepare chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
Inventory of lab supplies and chemicals.
Notify proper authority of lab results and record findings as necessary on batch sheet. Conduct necessary performance and calibration procedures.
Verify incoming raw materials with Raw Material Specifications.
