Responsibilities

Expectations:
The entry level position is designed to train the new technician on each of the four (4) analytical aisles in the QC laboratory. In this role, they will prepare process and finished product samples; perform analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures, and record results using computerized data systems. The entry level Laboratory Technician must have completed training on each aisle prior to their transition to the Laboratory Technician I position.
Aside from learning the skills necessary for advancement to the next level the entry level technician must also:
Complete both plant and laboratory safety orientations
Work safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by complying with all department and plant safety policies
React immediately to eliminate any hazards, unsafe equipment and/or acts. Additionally insures that any accidents, injuries and near misses are reported immediately to area supervision
Perform at least one Laboratory Safety audit per month

Requirements (General):
This position requires 8-hour rotating shifts and must be flexible to work overtime as needed.
Training should be completed during the first year on the job.
Delay or failure to meet established training goals may delay promotion to the next level as well as lead to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
All technicians will be expected to show continuous improvement in all areas of KPI tracking. Performance issues will be addressed to ensure that the Entry Level Laboratory Technician has the opportunity to correct any of these concerns. Issues that cannot be corrected with the coaching process may lead to disciplinary action.
Requirements (Technical):
Each employee should possess a solid understanding of a laboratory environment and a working knowledge of cGMP, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.
Familiarity with Laboratory Instrumentation including HPLC, GC, and IC is beneficial.
New technicians are certified in each area around 60 days from when they begin working an aisle alone.
Laboratory Technician III and Supervision members watch them perform required tests to ensure they have been properly trained prior to sign off.
The Entry Level Laboratory Technician position requires no previous laboratory experience, but completion of a college science lab is preferred.

Description Perform laboratory analysis on in-process and finished product samples to determine conformance to the specifications of quality and purity.
* Collection of samples throughout the plant and delivery of samples to the Central Analytical Lab will be a requirement.
* Results analysis in a fast-paced environment as well as reporting deviations to Operations is necessary to ensure the production of in-spec material.
* Must review and interpret shift notes and addition of relevant lab findings.
* Must ensure equipment at Critical Control Points in the process are in working condition on a regular basis. This requires frequent visits to the packaging line from the lab.
* Clear communication with fellow lab techs during shift change is necessary to ensure seamless transition between shifts.
* Must maintain lab cleanliness and keep track of inventory of product ingredients.
* High level of organization skills required to ensure samples are properly collected, labeled, and matched with accurate results.

Job Summary:
Performs moderate and high complexity laboratory testing. Assumes responsibility for troubleshooting, system controls and maintenance and precepting with limited supervision. The employee will collect blood specimens (venous, capillary) from patients.
Essential Functions:
Collects, tests and stores blood and blood products. Administers transfusion products, and procedures from releasing blood to nursing staff to maintain records for transfusions
Follows laboratory policies and procedures for obtaining blood specimens, body fluids and swabs for laboratory testing
Performs required procedures related to counting and identification of blood cells, coagulation studies
Performs chemical tests on body fluids and exudates, tests urine and examines urine sediment for various types of cell bodies
Process chemical testing on blood, serum, and plasma using various analyzers
Perform routine serological tests on body fluids and other body materials to ascertain pathologic qualities
Performs bacteriology culture setups and specific bacteriologic and viral identification using molecular test methods. Must be knowledgeable of bacteriology methods to isolate, identify and result susceptibility of various organisms
Performs immunohematology methods in the transfusion medicine section

What you will do:
The Lab Technician performs microbial and chemical analysis of milk, raw cream, condensed skim and ice cream; other testing to include milk components, sensory evaluation, antibiotics, added water, sediments and drinking water. Performs data entry of information into NAV and occasional correspondence via email.
Here's a day in the life:
* May perform the following testing using wet chemistry or rapid analysis equipment depending upon the daily schedule: Microbial and chemical analysis of milk or ice cream.
* Other testing may include sensory evaluation, antibiotics, added water, or sediment.
* Assists with descriptive sensory analysis, statistical analysis and writes technical briefs.
* Enters information into specialized database i.e. MS Navision (NAV) as needed.
* Performs all other duties as assigned as needed.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.
* Ability to communicate effectively.
* Must be a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.
* Must be computer literate with intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. SharePoint is a plus.
