Essential Functions:
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
Properly processes specimens following established protocols for proper patient identification and labelling. Specimen collection via phlebotomy and venipuncture may be required at specific hospital locations as needed.
Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections, including acceptable QC recognition of abnormal/unusual results. Documents unacceptable specimens according to appropriate policy. Communicates specimen requirements to appropriate personnel. Reports, documents, and communicates to appropriate personnel critical values per hospital policy.
Completes reports and maintains records and documentation of test results by entering and verifying data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Operates analytical equipment for medical laboratory tests. Monitors, cleans, calibrates and maintains devices and instruments according to manufacturer specifications and relevant standards. Troubleshoots malfunctions and initiates corrective action. Keeps accurate records of all equipment checks and maintenance actions performed.
Adheres to established quality control policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and validity of laboratory results. Recognizes factors that affect measurements and takes appropriate action according to protocol. Follows QC protocols for all testing before releasing results. Documents quality control results in compliance with regulatory agencies. Participates in Proficiency testing program.
Maintains clinical competency by annually fulfilling regulatory requirements. Participates in hospital/laboratory in-services for educational purposes as well as to comply with accrediting agency regulations.
Other laboratory technician duties as assigned by the lead, supervisor or manager, including: the provision of technical education and training to other technicians and students if requested in order to meet the criteria established by the student's institution.

Nemours is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist Shift (Full-Time), to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE.
Work Schedule: 3, 10-hour shifts (9:00pm - 7:30am) with weekend and holiday rotations.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist exhibits the certified expertise required to perform complex services, procedures, and related tasks in the clinical laboratory, including in the areas of molecular diagnostics and flow cytometry, while under the direction of a Laboratory Supervisor or Manager.
The MLS will perform a variety of analytical procedures and specimen testing of moderate to high complexity, properly utilizing methodologies and instruments in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures and in compliance with regulatory agency requirements. The MLS may oversee some procedures being handled by Medical Laboratory Technicians, as needed.
Performs a variety of analytical procedures of moderate to high complexity in all areas of the laboratory as assigned, using manual and automated methods, and through a variety of clinical laboratory methodologies. In this function, must be able to independently perform all required calibration, quality control, statistical calculations and other process control and mathematical functions. Must also be able to understand concepts such as linearity, and standard deviation, as it applies to the performance of analytical testing in a clinical laboratory.
Additional responsibilities in Microbiology (if assigned):
Perform culture set-up, Gram stain preparation and interpretation, incubation, and examination to accurately and appropriate apply clinical and technical judgement.
Conduct bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing from appropriate specimen types, ensuring accurate interpretation of clinical significance (normal flora vs pathogens) and compliance with quality and safety standards.
Perform molecular diagnostic assays (e.g., PCR) and rapid antigen testing, including specimen preparation, test set-up, result interpretation, and timely result reporting.
Develops and validates various complex tests for implementation in all sections of the laboratory. Collaborates in the writing and review of policies and standard operating procedures and completes proficiency testing.
Orders, accessions, statuses, and reports the results of tests performed on patient specimens, monitoring a variety of critical clinical issues, such as patient identifiers, specimen quality, order appropriateness, etc. In this function, must be able to read and understand a variety of written material such as specimen requisitions, worksheets, patient identification, specimen requirements, etc., whether performing this task manually (e.g., on paper) or using an information system. Must be able to check and verify information such as patient identification, lot numbers, expiration dates, etc., and act appropriately. Monitors pending logs regularly to provide rapid turnaround time.
Operates, calibrates, and performs troubleshooting and maintenance on laboratory equipment following established procedures, and as assigned by supervisor. Must be able to take responsibility for laboratory equipment performance, as demonstrated by interactions with technical representatives for instrument maintenance, both preventive and repair; must be able to successfully perform start-up and shutdown of complex analytical equipment. Recognizes need for additional Quality Control, maintenance, or specimens prior to releasing test results.
If specifically trained and assigned to specimen collection, processing and handling, collects or assists with specimens from patients or others in special procedures (e.g., assisting physicians at bone marrow aspirate collections). Such collections may take place in a variety of environments. Such collections may require entering patient isolation rooms, whereby, associate must follow appropriate infection control procedures.
Transports and handles specimens as assigned, following appropriate procedures.
Reviews technical and administrative procedures, as assigned. Responsible for staying informed about section changes, procedure changes and updates, etc. Reviews questions about procedures with section supervisor or designee as needed, informing supervisor when confusion about instructions or procedures exists.
Handles supply and inventory issues as required/assigned, identifying key technical parameters, such as lot numbers, storage requirements, etc. as required for performance of laboratory procedures. Follows laboratory section inventory procedures (e.g., recording date received, condition when received, checking order forms, invoices, etc.) Retrieves supplies and equipment from storage areas as needed. Notifies the section leader to place orders to avoid inventory deficiencies.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Lab program or Science related program is required.
Minimum of 6 months experience required. Experience can include clinical practicum time as a student.
Nationally/Internationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist or equivalent (ASCP, AAB or AMT) is required.

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible to provide comprehensive health services to DOS, DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. This is medical technology work performing diagnostic laboratory tests in the analysis of human tissue and body fluids in a clinical laboratory. This position's primary focus will be validation, procedural documentation, testing and reporting of antimicrobial resistant Gonorrhea and other STI's in support of CDC's HAl program. An employee in this class performs a variety of standardized laboratory tests in a variety of fields, which may include clinical chemistry, microbiology, mycobacteria testing (where appropriate), immunology, urinalysis, and hematology. Work may include providing technical guidance to lower-level technicians. Work is performed under the general direction of a technical supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of standardized laboratory tests in the fields of clinical chemistry, immunology, hematology, microbiology, molecular microbiology and urinalysis
Performs tests requiring use of automated equipment such as automated testing platforms, immunoassay analyzers and microbiology manual procedures
Performs complex tests requiring use of pipettors, dilutors, spectrophotometers and microscopes
Conducts standardized laboratory tests to identify the origins or causes of disease states by following laboratory procedures for specimen handling and test analysis
Validates, reports, and maintains records of examinations conducted and patient test results
Shipping and Handling of dangerous goods.
Complies with established policies and procedures for quality control, quality assurance and safety
Performs and documents quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance activities
Prepares special culture media, solutions, reagents, standards, and controls according to prescribed procedures
Assists lower-level technical personnel in troubleshooting; provides technical guidance and reviews their work
Performs related work as required
Skills Required:
Ability to care for and use laboratory equipment
Ability to use the microscope and accessory equipment
Ability to accurately identify bacteria and other micro-organisms
Education and Experience:
Completion of a bachelor's degree in medical technology or one of the biological or chemical sciences from an accredited college or university
ASCP Certification preferred, not required.
If ASCP Certified, salary will be adjusted and reflected accordingly.

Job Description
The Laboratory Technician Shall:
Responsible for pre-analytical processes within the life cycle of the laboratory specimen collection, packaging, shipping, receiving, processing, tracking, test adds/cancellations, create and resolve specimen service requests, specimen archiving, and archive returns to customers.
Technician will not perform any work related to patient testing (i.e. specimen dilutions, assay set-up, placing patient specimens on instrumentations, etc.); this work is to be performed solely by licensed CLS employees.
Perform cleaning duties, equipment maintenance (daily/PM, as needed)
Perform filing, scanning and archiving of quality and testing records
Work closely and communicate with other lab staff to complete daily activities efficiently, contribute to team effort
Interfaces with Eurofins DPT clients to resolve specimen issues
Recommends changes in services, processes, and policies that enhance pre-analytical efficiencies.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Other duties as assigned
Performs duties in compliance with all applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies
Supports Eurofins DPT's business philosophy, leadership values, and ethics
