Job Description
PRN variable days/hours, includes every other weekend eve or night shift
The Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II) role, under general supervision, performs analyses on a variety of sample types. Maintains proper records and utilizes independent judgement to generate acceptable test results. Responsible for quality, efficiency and safety in the performance of laboratory functions. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.
Performs routine and specialized laboratory testing in their assigned specialty area following all standard operating procedures.
Correlates laboratory findings with disease states; integrates and relates data from other laboratory specialty areas; confirms abnormal results and resolves specimen and testing discrepancies. Institutes appropriate follow-up measures for unusual test results.
Calibrates instruments; performs and documents preventative and corrective maintenance on instruments and equipment
Troubleshoots most routine technical and analytical problems including specimen collection problems within minimal supervision.
Monitors and reviews quality control data and quality assurance information to determine reliability and acceptability of patient results. Assists in documentation of quality occurrences. Initiates corrective actions for quality control and other quality and/or service problems.
Performs duties and documents information in compliance with a variety of regulatory and accreditation standards. Performs testing on proficiency testing samples as required.
Assures tests are completed in a timely manner per turnaround time expectations of the Department and that all pending test reports are reconciled in a timely manner.
Provides orientation and training to new employees in the assigned laboratory sections. Attends continuing education sessions as required.
Assists in reviewing standard operating procedures as requested.
Maintains a neat and organized bench area replenishing supplies as needed.
May serve as charge technologist on assigned shifts; in this capacity, troubleshoots laboratory operations problems and initiates corrective actions.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, biology or related sciences preferred; an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field or completion of Military Laboratory Technician program with experience required.
Experience: Three years of clinical laboratory experience required.
Licensure/Certifications: ASCP or equivalent preferred.

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible to provide comprehensive health services to DOS, DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The MLT performs lab tests and procedures, mostly comprising of microscopic, bacteriological, hematologic, immunologic, and chemical diagnostic analyses on samples of tissue, blood, urine, stool, synovial fluid and semen. The MLT looks for clues to the absence, presence, and extent of the causes and progression of diseases through accurate and efficient lab tests.

* Oversee the operations, maintenance and coordination of the laboratory spaces used in the OT program, including skills, simulation, community-based labs/fieldwork experiences and practice labs.
* Orient new faculty and students to the lab spaces, equipment, and safety protocols.
* Ensure all laboratory equipment is functioning properly; coordinate required calibration, report and coordinate repair/replacement as needed.
* Monitor and maintain adequate lab supplies, equipment and assessment tools to support instruction; order materials as required.
* Maintain a safe, clean, inclusive, and supportive learning environment in all lab, simulation and fieldwork spaces.
* Support faculty in the development, setup, and implementation of OT skills labs, simulation activities and fieldwork experiences.
* Assist with use of simulation technology and lab equipment during instructional/fieldwork sessions.
* Collaborate with OT faculty to design and update lab scenarios aligned with course objectives and ACOTE accreditation standards.
* Stay current with best practices in OT education, simulation, and lab instruction.
* Serve as a liaison between the OT Department and community partners that support lab, simulation activities or community-based labs/fieldwork experiences.
Student Success & Academic Success Coaching Responsibilities
* Supervise students during practice in the OT lab to reinforce instruction provided by faculty.
* Provide individual or small-group skill coaching, remediation, and tutoring, particularly in areas such as activity analysis, therapeutic use of self, assistive technology, and intervention techniques.
* Collaborate with faculty to identify at-risk students and provide targeted lab-based support.
* Assist students in developing hands-on skills and professional reasoning through guided lab activities.
* Provide feedback to students and faculty on student performance, skill development, and resource needs.
Administrative Responsibilities
* Work with the OT Program Director to develop and manage the OT lab budget.
* Maintain accurate records of equipment, supplies, and lab use.
* Collaborate with vendors regarding equipment purchase, service, and training.
* Assist in scheduling lab and simulation sessions across the OT curriculum.
* Ensure compliance with institutional policies, FERPA, Title IX, and ACOTE standards.
* Participate in departmental meetings and serve on assigned OT Program committees.
* Participate and provide data for accreditation purposes.
Requirements:
Qualifications
* Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
* Current certification by NBCOT as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
* Licensed or eligibility for Maryland licensure as an OTA.
* Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience as a COTA.
* Experience in OT education, lab instruction, or student mentorship preferred.
* Knowledge of simulation or lab-based teaching environments a plus.
* Excellent/strong oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration abilities.
* Capacity to work effectively in a team environment and work well independently.
* Capacity to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects and schedules.

Physical Characteristics
* This position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time, as well as some bending and stooping when working in the laboratory. This position does have some limited lifting involved but not more than 40 pounds at a time. Quite a bit of finger/hand dexterity, and walking is involved in regard to lab work and computer work.
* Ability to set up, take down, and maintain equipment and lab spaces.
* Manual dexterity required for handling simulation devices and computer-based systems.
* Must be able to work flexible hours including day and/or evening shifts as needed.
* Ability to spend the majority of the workday in an inside classroom, lab, and simulation environment.
* Visual ability to perform close-up work on screens and physical materials.
* Stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, use hand/eye coordination, finger dexterity, reach overhead, lift up to 40 pounds, and move equipment.

Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely working in a clinical, skills lab and normal office environment with moderate exposure to adverse conditions. The employee may be exposed to potentially infectious materials such as blood or other bodily fluids in the delivery of routine medical services. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

General Summary
Under general supervision performs a variety of routine and specialized technical procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory/Interventional Radiology Department. Assists physicians in the performance of cardiovascular diagnostic testing and other therapeutic/interventional procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
Principal Responsibilities And Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
If certified by ARRT: Operates fluoroscopy, digital angiography equipment, applying ionizing radiation to cardiology patients in accordance with standard operating procedures and according to departmental policies and procedure
Operates hemodynamic assessment tools to include cardiac output, blood gas analyzers, oxygen consumption analyzers, and patient monitoring equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, electrocardiogram and pulse oximeters to measure the various vital functions during the procedure.
Operates procedural equipment to include but not limited to: Intravascular Ultrasound, Fractional Flow Reserve, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Impella, Anglo-Jet, Power Injector.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Associates degree or diploma from accredited radiologic technology/RCIS/RCES program
BLS certification is required.
ACLS certification is preferred, but the employee has one year to obtain the certification if the ACLS is a first-time endeavor.
Certification from the ARRT as an RT(R)(CVI), RT(R)(CI) or RT(R)(VI) and licensure by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist
Maintenance of 12 contact hours of education every year.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of radiology and cardiovascular principles and practices including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning and general nursing procedure.
Ability to operate various types of equipment to include but not limited to: EKG, ACT, ISTAT blood gas analyzer, pulse oximeter, defibrillators, suction machines, and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and Impella.
Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients, medical and nursing personnel.
