CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels(CSRH-NB), nestled in the heart of downtown New Braunfels, is a full-service, 94-private bed facility that continues to expand to meet the needs of New Braunfels' strong population growth. Innovative equipment and procedures are utilized, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a renovated birthing center, including 24/7 neonatal coverage, emergency care, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and comprehensive heart care, from diagnostics to open-heart surgery.

Summary:

This position performs all routine and complicated laboratory procedures including specimen processing and handling, testing of patient specimens, calculating and reporting of results, performance of quality control procedures, operation and maintenance of instruments and equipment, assisting in the development of new procedures and protocols, may perform phlebotomy and other patient oriented tasks, and may perform other related duties as requested or directed.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited college/university, or

Education that has been evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency and deemed equivalent to a US Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.

Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by NAACLS, or other organizations approved by HHS, or

Five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, serology and urinalysis/body fluids in the U.S. or an accredited laboratory within the last ten years.

At least one (1) to two (2) additional years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.

Must possess or provide proof of certification or certification eligibility for MT (ASCP), CLS (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), CLS (NCA/ASCP), or MT (AMT).

If certification with an expiration date is held, the certification must be kept current

Job Duties
Performs, develops and interprets routine and/or specialized laboratory testing independently without error, within established time frames. Performs, analyzes and records quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting making judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action necessary to maintain accuracy and precision. Escalates appropriately when results are out of control and ensures adequate documentation of corrective action. Adheres to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintains an awareness of accreditation standards for laboratories by reviewing the most current checklist/standards. Follows safety guidelines, OIG compliance requirements and follows protocol for proficiency testing of samples. Participates in performance improvement opportunities by assisting in the collection and analysis of data and supports business development and cost reduction initiatives by managing supply and reagent inventory. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. Other related duties as required.

Reporting to the Manager, Core Lab Operations, Lab, Admin, this position is responsible for supervising the activities of the Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, and laboratory assistants in the Microbiology department. The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical oversight, data review, managing personnel, and department development within all established federal, state, and local, regulatory guidelines.

1. Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution is required.

2. Candidate must meet qualifications to function as a Technical Supervisor as stated under Clinical Laboratory Improvement
Amendments (CLIA) regulations for the Microbiology department.

3. Four years of experience in Microbiology as a Clinical Microbiologist or four years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist

with a minimum of six months experience in the subspecialties of bacteriology and parasitology in a high complexity testing laboratory is required.

4. Licensure as a Clinical Microbiologist Scientist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the State of California is required.

5. Board Certification from a governing body acceptable for the State of California (i.e. ASCP) is preferred.

6. Supervisory experience or similar leadership experience with an emphasis on developing processes, Lean/process improvement, and working in a collaborative role with lab leadership is required.

7. Excellent communication and leadership skills to ensure patient and staff cooperation, and customer service are required.

8. Attention to detail, business acumen, and the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment are required.
