Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician Metairie, LA Advanced Clinical Laboratory is a CLIA certified clinical diagnostics laboratory located in Metairie, Louisiana. We offer comprehensive clinical and specialized testing performed on-site, with same day turn-around for most tests.
We are looking for either a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team.
Primary Responsibilities:
Ensures specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing according to the lab's criteria.
Labels, accessions and distributes specimens so that integrity of patient identification is maintained throughout processing.
Manages and prepares samples for testing per Lab protocol
Performs laboratory tests accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely reporting of patient results with appropriate documentation.
Changes or prepares reagents, controls as necessary and record in log.
Operates both primary and secondary instrumentation proficiently. Operates, calibrates, conducts performance checks and maintains any clinical laboratory instrument or equipment after orientation.
Adheres to the clinical laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed in accordance with the clinical laboratory's approval policies and procedures
Troubleshoots basic instrument malfunctions and documents in the appropriate action log. Determines when an instrument's service representative should be contacted for assistance.
Assists with specialized functions, such as, but not limited to, quality assurance, quality control, QC review, statistical evaluations and clinical surveys (CLIA/ COLA/CAP)
Helps document and deliver laboratory results and patient information according to the Lab's HIPAA-compliance policies
Participate in proficiency testing samples and ensure that these samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
Follows the clinical laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the clinical laboratory's defined acceptable levels of performance

Job Requirements:
LSBME licensure required
Bachelor's in medical technology, clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical, or biological science OR
Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology OR
Education AND training equivalent to an associate degree in laboratory science or medical technology
60 semester hours including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses (including chemistry and biology)
OR either completion of an approved/accredited clinical laboratory training program, which may be included in the 60 semester hours specified above or at least three months of documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing

When in contact with patients of different age ranges (e.g., pediatric, adolescent, geriatric), performs all patient care duties in a manner that demonstrates a humanistic attitude for the physical and psychological needs relevant to the age of the patient served.

Qualifications
Experience - Preferred but not required
Education - Bachelor's Degree
Training - One year training in a NAACLS approved MT/CLS program
Special Skills - Good interpersonal/human relations skills; Good oral/written communication skills; Good teamwork skills; Good critical thinking/decision making skills; Superior organizational skills
Licensure - Licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Specialist (CLS-S) with Registry in applicable specialty for department and position.
