Responsibilities:
* Demonstrate proficiency in all duties of a Medical Technologist I and II.
* Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) ensuring that applicable quality control requirements are met.
* Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
* Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results including STATS or critical results to clients.
* Perform, review and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function. Make quality control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test.
* Review requests for validity checks and recommend an appropriate course of action taking into account the limitations of specimen requirements and the effects of time and the quality of additional and/or repeat testing.
* Serve as a technical resource for the department by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems, recommending a course of action in instances identified as beyond acceptable limits, and responding to non-routine/complex inquiries and/or requests from clients and sales representatives.
* Assist Lab Supervisor by monitoring workflow to meet testing schedules; distributing and reviewing work assignments; training employees in laboratory techniques; resolving work-related problems of staff; and providing input for performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
* Expedite the flow of work to maximize productive capacity by evaluating production systems and recommending enhancements and coordinating the resolution of production problems/issues involving other laboratory departments.
* Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional and sanitary condition.
* Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate and assist with the department's annual competency testing process and documentation.
* Adheres to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements and reviews department activities to ensure compliance.
* Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, (b) engineering controls and/or (c) work practice controls as directed by management.
* Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
* Perform necessary supervisor functions in the absence of a Supervisor, if qualified and delegated.

Qualifications:
Required Work Experience:
Three (3) to five (5) years of clinical experience as a Medical Technologist within the designated discipline.

Preferred Work Experience:
Experience as a Medical Technologist at Quest is highly desired.

Description: JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result;

14. Make sure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable opened dates. 15. Review/train on new procedures.
16. Attend monthly department and any additional training/educational meetings.
17. Participate in all applicable safety training sessions. Know the location and contents of the safety manual. Know the location/use of all applicable safety equipment.
18. If needed, participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.

Required Knowledge: A solid understanding of basic laboratory testing is required for this position. The successful candidate must possess good computer skills and be able to adapt to working in multiple computer systems. Must have knowledge of QC and QA as well as knowledge of all areas of the laboratory.
Education:
BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433 published in March 14, 1990. The Medical Technologist Specialist is the technical expert in their assigned section 24/7. Primary responsibilities include training and competency evaluation of staff and quality control of test reporting, monitoring instrument function, maintenance, troubleshooting and relevant issues. · Oversees the daily activities of section staff to ensure timely, accurate reporting of laboratory testing to assist physicians in providing patient care. Works closely with Manager to ensure day to day efficiency in the assigned section.
· Orients and mentors new staff members. Participates in the education and training of Med Tech students, MLT students, medical students, nursing students/staff and new laboratory section employees as needed.
· Collaboratively develops and implements technical orientation programs for new staff members. Ensures all standard operating procedures and practices adhere to Federal, State, and regulatory agency standards (CLIA, CAP, GDCH, TJC, OSHA, etc.) Ensures competency of all staff by complying with regulatory requirements.
· Performs routine technologist duties and responsibilities during the shift to ensure validity of reported results and performance in accordance with department guidelines.
· Monitors department quality control to maintain effective operation of instrumentation and quality of reported results and to meet accreditation standards. Documents corrective and preventative actions taken.
· Evaluates abnormal and routine test results and resolves instrumentation problems to ensure validity of reported results in accordance with departmental and regulatory guidelines. Demonstrates competency with LIS/HIS policies and procedures
· Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and reference ranges and correct reporting in LIS/HIS test methods. Works with Lab Administrative Director, Core Lab Director, Pathologists and Managers to analyze results and address issues.
· Performs non-analytical laboratory activities such as writing of section procedures, maintaining documentation of QC review, guiding performance improvement initiatives, reviewing proficiency testing, aiding customers, and providing technical support to the staff 24/7.
· Works closely with manager to stay within section budget. Responsible for maintaining adequate supplies for the section.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

RELATED FUNCTIONS :
Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis. Performs complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results taking into consideration the differences in age categories including neonates, infants, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles. Analyzes quality control data, makes judgements concerning the results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision. Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity and sensitivity, and specific factors that can influence test results. Participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of personnel, equipment, space, method comparison, cost analysis and establishment of reference intervals; helps write and revise technical procedures. Incorporates principles of educational methodology in the instruction of new employees and students and in the laboratory's in-service/continuing education program. Gives support and guidance to support personnel. Participates in development of special projects. Participates in continuing education and quality assurance and promotes service excellence at ORMC.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from accredited college or university; or Bachelor of Science in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences and has at least one year of pertinent laboratory experience or training accepted by the Georgia Department of Human Resources; or three years of academic study (a minimum of 135 hours or equivalent) in an accredited college or university and successful completion of a course of training at least 12 months in a school of medical technology approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the AMA; or meets requirements for a Technician and has at least 4 years pertinent laboratory experience; and has successfully completed an examination approved by the GDHR. Must be classified, or eligible for classification, as a Medical Technologist by the Georgia Department of Human Resources. (High Complexity Designation)
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION :
AMT, ASCP, NCA, ISCLT, or HHS or other agencies recognized by the Georgia Department of Human Resources.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have skills to communicate orally and in writing to convey test results, solve discrepancies, and give instructions with physicians and nurses 20% of the time, with other laboratory personnel 70% of the time, other hospital personnel 8% of the time, patients and their families 2% of the time.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Moderate to high amount of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, pulling, pushing, stooping, and kneeling. Minimal lifting requirements of twenty (20) to thirty (30) pounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works under the direct supervision of faculty members and performs routine standardized laboratory work requiring close attention to detailed procedures in the preparation and basic maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment, inventory and requisition of supplies, assisting faculty in supervision of students assigned to laboratories, and other related duties. Is employed on an individual academic term basis.
MAJOR DUTIES:

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
MICRO HEALTH SRVCS - Perform microbiological testing, including pathogens, on incoming raw materials, spices, and finished products. Practice good laboratory procedures and aseptic techniques. Perform environmental testing from production areas. Maintain inventory of necessary supplies and equipment needed for testing.
