Reports to the Department Manager, Supervisor or Lead Clinical Lab Scientist and is responsible for following established policies, procedures, and regulations. Performs/assists with various clinical laboratory test procedures and ensures proper maintenance and operation of instrumentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with Manager, Supervisor or Lead Clinical Lab Scientist on a variety of laboratory projects.
Participates in PI, QA, and QC to ensure all regulatory requirements maintain an 'in compliance' status.
Functions in a charge or lead role as assigned for the days operations to ensure safe quality and efficient workflow, practices, staffing and operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist in all disciplines by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP).
CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire for designated job roles.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing personnel and other clinicians relative to patient testing and information gathering.
Six to twelve months of laboratory training/job experience necessary in order to become familiar with a variety of laboratory testing procedures.
Ability to resolve technical problems using standard guides and procedures. Analytical skills necessary in order to perform and interpret routine tests and recognize abnormal/critical test results.
Must be able to determine the appropriate course of action for abnormal, atypical or critical test results.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and other Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) software preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Laboratory service areas have work environments with frequent exposure to physical discomforts due to unpleasant odors from specimens and chemicals. Frequent exposure to infectious agents when handling hazardous material, but potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed.

Scrubbing in during procedures, assisting the physician in maneuvering catheters.
Obtaining and recording hemodynamic, electrical, and angiographic data by operating-hemodynamic and electrical amplifiers and digital and line fluoroscopic equipment.
Monitoring the patient's hemodynamic status during procedures in the cardiac cath lab.
Participating in life-saving measures such as defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Cath Lab Rads should be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean or stoop without difficulty.
Must have 1 year of experience. The Cath Lab Rad must have BLS, ACLS, ARRT (R) -CI preferred or CCI-RCIS certification, and state specific licensing when required.

Job Description
Laboratory Technician - Smoke, Aerosol, and Physicals:
* Carry out sample preparation by operating a cigarette smoking and/or aerosolization machine; collect particulate matter on pads or impingers, and prepare samples for downstream chemical analysis. Perform routine instrument maintenance and cleaning.
* Carry out laboratory tests such as pH, water activity, weight, moisture, and physicals-testing methods. Perform routine instrument, balance, and machine maintenance.
* Carry out additional sample preparation duties such as weighing, digesting, shaking, and dissolving samples in preparation for downstream analytical testing, as assigned.
* Perform daily laboratory duties to include sample preparation, performing analysis, calculating data, recording/reporting data, performing general housekeeping in alignment with 5S standards, and performing other duties as assigned.
* Review data, data notebooks, and logbooks to ensure highest quality
* Meet all quality and productivity metrics
* Apply the highest quality standard in all areas of responsibility; maintain ISO 17025 quality standards and accreditation for the laboratory.
* Learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow WIs and SOPs as written, and perform other duties as assigned
* Demonstrate strong client service skills
* Proactively plan and maximize productivity
* Demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration
* Implement operational improvements
* Support and promote company policies and procedures
Qualifications
* Relevant laboratory experience preferred
* Experience using balances, shakers, and basic laboratory instrumentation. Experience using physicals testing equipment and smoke/aerosol machines is preferred.
* Degree in chemistry or related scientific discipline preferred
* Experience working within an established quality system (i.e. ISO 17025) preferred
* Understanding of production laboratory operations
* Strong work ethic, detailed-oriented, with strong analytical and organizational skills.
* Strong written, verbal and presentation skills along with demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.
* Strong computer, client service, scientific, and organizational skills
* Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude

Job Summary and Qualifications
Our Medical Lab Technicians (MLT) perform assigned laboratory tests in specialty departments to include Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Blood Bank, Serology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Microbiology.By conducting laboratory tests and procedures, you will help to provide data for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Day-to-day duties include complex analysis of microscopic, immunologic, biologic, bacteriologic, hematologic, and chemical tests and their results.
You will also be responsible for specimen receiving and putting away supplies when received in the department.
You will troubleshoot/resolve instrument problems and document corrective action in appropriate log and when necessary, perform instrumentation repairs.
Assure that quality control is properly performed and logged and follow proper department procedure for corrective action.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to train new employees and/or students.
You will actively participate in phlebotomy and the accession responsibilities.
EXPERIENCE:Previous Medical Lab Technician or Medical Lab Scientist experience is preferred.
EDUCATION:An Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biological, Chemical, and/or Physical Science is required. A Nursing Degree will be considered with the required CLIA acceptable courses. An Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Science is preferred.
CERTIFICATION:Successful completion of registry within 12 months of hire for anyone with a hire date after 1/1/2005. Registry/Licensure in a specialty area will be considered. An ASCP, AMT,NCA, or HEW are preferred. Continuing education to maintain registry/licensure is required.
