The Lab Assistant (LA) provides receptionist, registration, secretarial and specimen collection duties to support laboratory services. The LA must demonstrate excellent customer service skills, be detail-oriented and able to multi-task well. Requires previous phlebotomy training and/or experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs phlebotomy, venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures in compliance with Winona Health policies and regulatory requirements.
Knowledgeable of proper specimen collection requirements. Performs phlebotomy for patients of all ages in compliance with the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) standards and established laboratory policies and procedures.

Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Lab Technicians perform chemical and physical testing of footwear, leather, garments, and the raw materials used in their manufacture. Although the responsibilities of each Lab Technician may vary, all technicians should have a general knowledge of the majority of functions performed in the laboratory. All technicians are trained in laboratory safety procedures and must follow these at all times. All technicians are also responsible for properly maintaining their work area and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Conduct physical testing of leather, footwear, garments, and raw materials using various lab equipment to evaluate performance and attributes to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
· Conduct chemical testing of leather, bluestock, collagen and raw materials using wet bench chemistry and analytical instruments such as HPLC, AA, GC and UV Spectrophotometer to monitor quality control and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
· Analyze test results and identify trends in data using spreadsheets and graphing programs.
· Timely communication of results to multiple departments in the organization.
· Accurately record/input data and maintain documentation per QSP's (quality standard procedures) and regulatory requirements.
· Observe, troubleshoot, advise, and participate in corrective action planning to address issues.
· Miscellaneous duties include housekeeping, collection of samples and information, equipment calibration, etc.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
AA degree with a focus in chemistry and math plus 1 or more years of experience in a laboratory testing environment. Position requires training in laboratory safety procedures.

Job Responsibilities
* Receive and sort clinical lab specimens
* Prepare specimens for testing and analysis
* Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information
* Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance
* Troubleshoot any specimen related issues
* Replenish test bench supplies as needed
* Maintain a clean and safe work environment
* Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested
* Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards
Job Requirements
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Previous medical/lab or production experience is preferred
* Comfortability with handling biological specimens
* Ability to accurately identify specimens
* Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
* High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
* Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times
* Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
* Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
* Must pass a standardized color blindness test
* Flexibility to work overtime as needed

Laboratory Services Lab Assistant 0.5 FTE, 40 Hours per Pay Period Shifts: Between the hours of 0500 to 2100 Weekends/Holidays: Every Fourth weekend/Every third holiday The Lab Assistant (LA) provides receptionist, registration, secretarial and specimen collection duties to support laboratory services. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* Performs phlebotomy, venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures in compliance with Winona Health policies and regulatory requirements.
* Knowledgeable of proper specimen collection requirements. Performs phlebotomy for patients of all ages in compliance with the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) standards and established laboratory policies and procedures.
* Performs specimen check in processes and distribution of blood, urine and culture specimens received into the lab
* Provides urine drug screen collection and processing services according to established policies and procedures. Assists with processing specimens for referral lab testing.
* Performs general clerical duties including answering phones, faxing documents, order entry, result entry, database entry for send out tests, and multiple other clerical tasks as needed.
* Provides off-site phlebotomy services to residents in area nursing homes and for community health screening clinics and other Winona Health approved services.
* May be trained in the preparation and processing of Thin Prep PAP Smears.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* High school/GED/equivalent.
* Requires phlebotomy training and/or experience. Phlebotomy
course completion required.
* Knowledgeable and skilled at proper specimen collection
requirements for patients of all ages.
* Basic computer skills. Word. Excel. Access or other

The Hematopathology Morphology group is responsible for performing complete blood counts (CBC) and analyzing cellular morphology in peripheral blood and some body fluids. The laboratory also performs a wide range of cytochemical stains. Responsibilities
+ Accession pathology cases by reviewing and documenting materials.
+ Correlate paperwork and assess the appropriateness of ordering.
+ Communicate with clients when discrepancies are encountered or additional information is needed.
+ Collaborate with departments such as Cell Kinetics, Molecular, and Cytogenetics.
+ Work closely with pathologists to ensure accurate and efficient processes.
