Essential Functions Specimen & Testing Responsibilities Evaluate specimens for quality and pre‑analytical errors. Perform high‑complexity testing. Verify test results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability. Perform, evaluate, and document all quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures. Verify instrument performance standards (e.g., linearity, reportable range, method comparison). Ensure proper utilization, preparation, and storage of reagents and supplies. Troubleshooting & Quality Assurance Utilize critical thinking and theoretical knowledge to troubleshoot unusual testing situations. Identify potential sources of error across pre‑analytical, analytical, and post‑analytical phases. Provide guidance on interfering substances or error sources. Report unresolved issues to the supervisor. Participate in developing departmental policies and procedures related to test performance, quality control, and preventative maintenance. Education & Training Bachelor's degree required. Successful completion of an approved clinical laboratory training internship. Licensure / Certification Must maintain a current Florida Medical Technologist license in required specialties. National certification (ASCP, AAB, or AMT) preferred. Experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience required. Department-specific competencies may be required depending on area of assignment.
