Stay up to date with organization communication and directive. Collects, processes, and handles blood and/or other biological specimens according to established policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate sampling and maintaining accurate record keeping; instructs patients in the proper collection of samples. Follow the laboratory's policies and procedures for testing analyses, reporting, and maintain records of patient test results. Report test results following protocols alerting providers and/or nurses about abnormal and/or critical results. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the technical consultant, clinical consultant, or director. Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, microbiology, and immunology. Prepares samples for pre-transfusion testing; issues and inspects components for transfusion purposes. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and procedures, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibration and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
