Position Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory testing using both manual and automated techniques. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Understands and adheres to the WPH performance standards, policies, and behaviors
Laboratory testing personnel responsibilities include:
Following the laboratory's pre-analytic and analytic procedures and maintaining records of these tests
Maintaining records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
Adhering to the laboratory's quality assurance procedures, including documenting all:
Quality control activities including quality control testing and calibrations
Instrument and equipment verifications
Maintenance and preventative maintenance
Following the laboratory's policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established performance specifications
Identifying and documenting problems that may adversely affect test performance and notifying the supervisor, assistant director or director and documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
Ensures the accuracy and quality of all results from pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
Notifies and documents clinicians and patient units of all critical values and maintains the laboratory STAT turn around time requirements.
Participates in regulatory readiness for CAP, AABB, NYSDOH, and Joint Commission.
Maintains 12 Continuing Education credits per year.
Understands and participates in standard operating procedures, proficiency testing, inspection audits, quality program including reporting non-conformances.
Evaluates test results for abnormalities and confirms those results per department protocols where required.
Participates in validations, training, and competency assessments as required.
Responsible for inventory management of lot numbers, expiration dates, labeling, and QC requirement.
Completes all annual mandatory training, in-services, and ongoing education as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Section testing training and competency assessments are maintained by the section laboratory supervisor for all assigned disciplines

Generalists - performs Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry/Immunology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Blood Bank specialties
Chemistry/Immunology - Performs Chemistry, Specialized Chemistry, Immunology, Molecular, and Serology testing
Hematology - Performs Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis testing
Microbiology - Performs Bacteriology, Parasitology, Virology, Mycology, Mycobacteriology, Susceptibilities, and Molecular testing
Blood Bank - Performs blood bank testing related to transfusion medicine and blood product distribution.
Anatomic Pathology - Performs histological procedures for routine, specials stains, and immunohistochemistry
Education & Experience Requirements :
Current NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required.
Education in accordance with the NYS Office of Professions and CLIA requirements of testing personnel.

How You'll Contribute:

Study and review laboratory operating manual and become familiar with quality assurance, quality control, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university or education requirement grandfathered by the NYSOP.

Keeps supervisor fully informed of all results and project status on a daily basis and reports critical information in a timely manner.
Should have some ability to multi-task.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
3-6 yrs relevant experience with Bachelor's Degree, 5+ yrs with Associate's Degree;
Good working knowledge of dissolution and reverse phase HPLC is necessary and a requirement.

Position Summary
The Laboratory Coordinator I will serve as a key team member of the Fertility Center's Andrology Laboratory. In this role, the Laboratory Coordinator I can expect to learn about the functioning of a clinical fertility laboratory and expand their laboratory skillset through training in clinical laboratory and foundational andrology tasks. Key responsibilities will include procedure set up, media inventory management, preparation and cryopreservation of samples, daily quality control, data entry, and lab maintenance. Responsibilities
Core Duties
* Train under direct supervision to perform non-licensed andrology clinical laboratory tasks, including the following:
* Performing set-up tasks to prepare for procedures, such as labeling labware and preparing media.
* Initiating specimen chain of custody, documentation, and witness procedures.
* Preparing, facilitating analysis of, and cryopreserving patient and donor samples: prepare sperm for insemination, ICSI, and IUI; load semen sample into automated semen analysis machine; and cryopreserve client depositor patient samples.
* Perform TESE preparation, cryopreservation and thawing for use in treatment.
* Receive patient semen specimens produced offsite and prepare for treatment or cryopreservation.
* Providing patients instructions for onsite male specimen production and answering patient questions as appropriate.
* Performing media and stock inventory management.
* Contribute to the accurate documentation of patient and procedure data: collect patient data and prepare patient charts; enter procedure data into the electronic medical records (EMR).
* Maintain the laboratory through daily cleaning, clerical support, and inventory management such as delivering, unpacking, restocking, rotating, and organizing supplies, to ensure that the overall condition of the laboratory and [production room are clean according to regulatory and department standards. Notify management when supplies are low and need restocking and escalate any issues as appropriate.

Responsibilities
Prepare reagents for analytical tests according to designated procedures. Calibrate equipment and perform routine maintenance as designated.
Accession and prepare all specimens for testing. Enter specimens for log book or computer terminal as required.
Perform all tests assigned bench according to procedure manual.
Bench equipment includes, but is not limited to:
Chemistry
Endocrinology
Blood Gas
Immunology
Follow all appropriate quality control procedures as designated, maintain records of it.
Report all designated “Panic” or “Out of limit” results immediately by telephone to appropriate physician. Keep records and resolve discrepancies.
Provide on-the-job training and orientation to students and new employees.
Update inventory of routine lab supplies and needs to assistant supervisor
Attend and participate in continuing in-house education meetings in order to remain current with emerging technology.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree majoring in Chemistry, Biology or Medical Sciences. Licensed as a Clinical Lab Technologist (CLIA) Successful completion on ninety (90) semester hours towards a bachelor's degree, including sixteen (16). semester hours in Chemistry courses acceptable for a major in Chemistry; six (6) of which are in Organic Chemistry; sixteen (16) semester hours in biology courses acceptable for a major in Biology and pertinent medical sciences; and three (3) semester hours in 1 mathematics, and in addition at least one (1) year of experience and training.

Job Summary:
The Department of Clinical Laboratories, Chemistry and Immunology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Lab Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Technologist 3. The successful candidate will:
Perform clinical laboratory procedures and examinations, and any other tests or procedures conducted by the Chemistry and Hematology Laboratories
Have working knowledge of routine instrumentation and methodology used in Clinical Hematology and Chemistry
Specific familiarization with Blood Gases, Olympus, and Architect instruments preferred
Have good knowledge of quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting on Chemistry and Hematology methodologies and instruments required
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent in Medical Technology, Physical, or Biological Science
New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist Licensure
