Medix is hiring Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) to support clinical laboratory services at a leading Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. This position plays a vital role in supporting the Department of Defense's medical mission by performing diagnostic testing across multiple disciplines to ensure clinical readiness and high‑quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Perform clinical lab tests in:
Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology, Cytology, Histotechnology, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, and Phlebotomy
Prepare and process biological specimens while maintaining sample integrity
Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments; troubleshoot and perform minor repairs as needed
Conduct and document quality control and assurance procedures
Enter and verify results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS); ensure accurate and timely reporting
Comply with Joint Commission standards, infection control procedures, and DoD regulations
Prepare biological waste for proper disposal in accordance with safety and environmental guidelines
Participate in mandatory trainings (e.g., MHS Genesis, DMHRSi)
Required Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
Completion of a minimum 6‑month clinical lab rotation in all core departments
Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program
Current certification by ASCP, AMT, or NCA
Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA‑approved)
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or otherwise authorized to work in the U.S.
Ability to pass a background investigation and credentialing process

Performs chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Applies techniques used in fields of microbiology, histo-pathology, hematology, diagnostic immunology, immunohematology, chemistry or morphological examinations.
Essential Responsibilities:
Conducts laboratory testing. Initiates and implements course of action based upon standard operating procedures.
Organizes work flow to accomplish efficient and accurate output. Reviews and verifies results for accuracy, and credibility prior to release. Records and reports results in timely manner.
Problem-solves to achieve acceptable test results and assures optimal system and instrument operations.
Interprets and verifies lab findings with regard to type and quality of specimen submitted. Correlates test results with available clinical information and other laboratory data.
Analyzes and evaluates each process of testing to assure final results are valid and accurate. Maintains and updates technical knowledge and skills by actively participating in department meetings, continuing education, and inservice instructions.Assists in development of operational procedures to ensure effective workflow.
Serves as resource with automated and other equipment, and in standard operation decision-making. Coordinates laboratory operations in absence of supervisor.
Ensures compliance with Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs. Addresses quality of service issues, and to implement internal quality assurance monitors or projects.
Takes corrective action to resolve problems. Reviews unresolved problems with supervisor. Reports action limit results according to standard procedures.
May serve as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA 88 for High Complexity Testing. The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results. Each individual performs only those high complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individuals education, training or experience, and technical abilities. Each individual performing high complexity testing must follow the laboratorys procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results; maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens; adhere to the laboratorys quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed; Follow the laboratorys established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratorys established acceptable levels of performance; Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the supervisor; and document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications.If not qualified to perform testing independently, must perform high complexity testing only under the onsite direct supervision of a supervisor.
Performs proficiency testing and reports results.
Advises providers and nursing service personnel of correct procedures for collection, handling and processing of specimens. Assists providers in determining appropriate laboratory services to be used for patient care.
Assists in training of technical students and/or new technologist employees.
Assists in development of technical procedures and in writing training procedures. Reviews and critiques new procedures developed by others.
Detects and repairs subtle instrument and/or reagent problems.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Laboratory Scientist:A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

At least a full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum may have consisted of a 1-year post- bachelor's certificate program or the last 1 or 2 years of a 4-year program of study culminating in a bachelor's in medical technology.

A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university that included 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, AND five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids. This combination of education and experience must have provided knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of medical technology equivalent to that provided by the full 4-year course of study described in A or B above. All science and mathematics courses must have been acceptable for credit toward meeting the requirements for a science major at an accredited college or university. Acceptable experience is responsible professional or technician experience in a hospital laboratory, health agency, industrial medical laboratory, or pharmaceutical house; or teaching, test development, or medical research program experience that provided an understanding of the methods and techniques applied in performing professional clinical laboratory work. Certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body is a good indication that the quality of experience is acceptable.
Evaluation of Education and Experience: The four major areas of clinical laboratory science are microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, and immunohematology (blood banking). Qualifying course work in these areas includes bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, tissue culture, virology, parasitology, endocrinology, enzymology, toxicology, urinalysis, coagulation, hemostasis, cell morphology, immunology, serology, immunoserology, immuno-deficiency, hemolysis, histocompatibility, cyto-genetics, and similar disciplines or areas of laboratory practice. Related fields include physiology, anatomy, molecular biology, cell biology, embryology, pathology, genetics, pharmacology, histology, cytology, nuclear medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, infection control, physics, statistics, and similar areas of science where the work is directly related to the position to be filled.

Essential Work Functions:
* Perform routine diagnostic laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, and immunology
* Prepare and process specimens for analysis, ensuring accurate labeling and handling

Perform routine and complex analytical tests on human body fluids and tissues to provide accurate data to the health care team for optimal diagnosis and treatment monitoring of disease states
Analyze, review, and report testing results
Recognize when corrective action is needed and implement effective solutions
Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazards
Champion safety, compliance, and quality control
All you need is:
Bachelor's Degree in medical technology or related science from an accredited program
Current and active certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a laboratory scientist (MLS), formerly known as MT/CLS or American Medical Technologist, as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) (AMT).
Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms
Bonus points if you've got:
2+ years of laboratory experience in a hospital/commercial lab setting.
