Technical Laboratory Support: • Provide support/back-up to the Histology Department for histology coverage for the performing histotechnician or histotechnologist as needed and delegated by the Laboratory Supervisor. • Maintain the various logs including special stains/deeper levels requests, H&E/special stains quality, microscope verification and routine maintenance, corrective action log for accessioning and grossing specimens. • Assist with ensuring routine maintenance of the equipment in the lab. • Assist the Histology department with other routine work as needed. • Make sure slides are filed properly, including ensuring proper labels are affixed to slides. • Follow policies and procedures to properly package and ship specimens. • Package and ship biopsy specimens when needed. • Follow universal precautions and all OSHA standards when handling specimens. Courier Support: • Provide courier coverage as needed and delegated by the Laboratory Supervisor. • Deliver and pick up medical records, lab specimens, and other materials to and from clinics, hospitals, and/or other medical facilities. • Maintain Logbook of all specimens. Track the biopsies and ensure the clinic receives all the results- Ensure test results match the logbooks. Other Assigned Tasks - General PPW Expectations: • Perform other tasks in the laboratory as requested by the Laboratory Supervisor. • Handling and directing telephone and other incoming and outgoing laboratory communication as needed. • Adhere to all PPW Standard Operating Procedures. • Demonstrate customer service & compassion when interacting with patients, physicians, and clinic staff. • Strictly adhere to HIPAA guidelines. • Inform Laboratory Supervisor of daily tasks, unusual problems, or deviations from established procedures. • Hours: 6:30am - 3:00pm • Wage Range: $19 - $21 per hour Qualifications Skills and Qualifications: • Office experience, preferably in a medical or other health care setting. • 2 Year or Associates Degree- REQUIRED • Bachelor's degree preferred. • Demonstrated ability to take and follow direction and to know who the resources are for their direction. • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, high-stress, deadline driven environment. • Ability to work in a standing position at times. • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. • Ability to work late shifts and weekends when necessary. • Familiarity with and skill in the operation of computers. • Ability to interact well with people and pleasant telephone manners. • Ability to work well under direction of the Laboratory Director and others in a supervisory capacity.
