Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Crook County Medical Services District is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team! This position will report to the Medical Laboratory Supervisor and will support both the hospital and clinics. Essential Functions: Performs various clinical testing including chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, test analysis, reporting and record keeping. Adhere to laboratory quality control standards and policies, including documentation of all quality control values and activities. Perform instrument calibration/recalibration as indicated by test and/or instrument specification with appropriate documentation. Perform analyzer maintenance with appropriate documentation as indicated by analyzer specification. Maintains competency in all assigned work areas of testing in the laboratory and perform proficiency testing as required to a minimal level of 80%. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or notify the Laboratory Supervisor. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Participate in the Laboratory Quality Improvement Program for CCMSD in such a manner as to improve the quality of care rendered to clients served by CCMSD. Education: Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Applied Science or Equivalent. Must possess or obtain ASCP registry or equivalent as MLS or MLT. Make chemical feed adjustments to ensure desired qualities are maintained based on results. Perform chemical feed adjustments in plant systems and recommend the initiation, discontinuance or alteration of feeds to protect or improve efficiency of each system. Communicate with the Control Room Operator on blow down requirements and the drum pressure limits necessary for protection of the boiler-turbine system. + Operate and calibrate water sample panel instrumentation and keep reagent levels within proper limits to provide continuous monitoring of water panel samples. + Perform chemical analyses directed on samples from other systems such as water pretreatment, circulating water, sulfur dioxide absorber, bearing cooling water, makeup water, HVAC's, and environmental processes. Recommend initiation, discontinuance, or alteration of chemical feeds to systems to protect or improve efficiency. + Perform tests on both solid and slurry forms of fly ash, lime, and limestone, and record and report data. + Operate the ion exchange mixed bed condensate polishers. This involves performing polisher resin regenerations, monitoring controls, operating valves, and changing resin. + Assist Operations personnel with the lock-out and tag-out procedures for isolating lab equipment scheduled for maintenance or repair. + Assist maintenance and operations personnel when the use of hazardous chemicals or laboratory equipment is required. + Assist maintenance personnel in the testing and calibration of laboratory monitoring equipment and maintenance of water treatment equipment. Assist in locating and making condenser tube leak repairs. Make inspections of boiler water, feed water, and condensate equipment during outages. Inform supervision immediately of potentially hazardous and/or damaging plant conditions + Assist in the cleanup and remediation of chemical spills as a member of the chemical spill control team.
