With roots that go as far back as 1895, the UM Rehab & Ortho Institute continues to be a pioneer in orthopaedics and neurological disorders. As the state's largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, we offer some of the most advanced therapies for stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopaedic and sports injuries, among many others.

The University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute invites applications for the position of Clinical Neuropsychologist within the Outpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Department. The primary role of the neuropsychologist is the assessment of individuals (primarily adults) with acquired brain injuries (e.g. mTBI / TBI, Stroke, Brain Tumors) and / or other general neurological conditions. Outpatient neuropsychologists are part of the interdisciplinary therapy team with Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapy. The neuropsychologist facilitates outpatient team meetings to assist with best practices. In addition, the outpatient neuropsychologist is embedded in 1-2 Neuro Trauma Recovery clinics per month. The ideal candidate works independently, has strong neuropsychological assessment skills, and has prior experience working as part of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team. There is opportunity for program development if desired. This is a full-time, exempt position with benefit eligibility. This position is eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment at the level of Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

What You Need to Be Successful:

The requirements for the position are as follows:

+ Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D.) from an APA accredited program in psychology

+ Completion of a 2 year residency program in Neuropsychology or Rehabilitation Psychology with a neuropsychological assessment component (APPCN program graduates are preferred)

+ Eligible for board certification in neuropsychology, and experience in a rehabilitation setting

+ MD Board of Examiners of Psychologists license

Responsibilities

* Interviewing patients and studying medical and social case histories
* Performing thorough neuropsychological evaluations and conveying feedback to the clients and their families regarding test results and adjusting treatment to achieve maximum results
* Conferring with the treatment team on the impact of brain-behavioral relationships on the client's daily functioning and performing periodic formal assessments at various stages
* Educating treatment team members on brain-related behaviors and on the implications of neuropsychological deficit on daily functioning
* Providing treatment progress and status documentation in accordance with the Plan of Treatment
* Participating in the team process, providing input and effective treatment strategies, and attending case conferences and family educational meetings
* Designing community reintegration activities for clients and helping them to understand their needs and limitations and how to manage them
* Reporting progress and changes in condition to the clinical staff as well as to clients and their family members
* Collecting and documenting items necessary for the organization to complete a thorough and effective program evaluation and program improvement
* Attending, participating in, and/or conducting internal staff development programs, and obtaining continuing education in order to maintain and enhance clinical practice skills
* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

* Ph.D. in Neuropsychology or in an accredited training program in Neuropsychology
* Current and valid professional license and/or certification as required by state of practice
* Two years of post-doctoral training in clinical Neuropsychology
* Minimum of three years of clinical experience in the assessment and management of traumatic brain injury or related neurological conditions
* Knowledge of complex neurologic injury and orthopedic rehabilitation techniques
