Better State of Care Magnet designated Academic Medical Center with a 19 bed combined Pediatric Intensive/Cardiac Care Unit (PICU/CICU) providing expert multidisciplinary care for children from infants to young adults with life-threatening conditions. University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking an experience Registered Nurse (preferred Pediatric CICU/ICU) to join the PICU Nursing team!

Job Summary:


This role is designed for the nurse who is a clinical and professional leader at the unit level. Demonstrates effective and consistent leadership behaviors in advancing evidence based practices, leading unit governance initiatives, and coaching others to achieve and grow in the role of the professional nurse.

Job Responsibilities:


Provides independent care of unit specific patient population; serves as Clinical Resource for others, utilizes and integrates evidence into practice, functions effectively in roles specific to unit (such as arrest team for ICU, triage for ED, etc). Serves as a clinical expert and professional resource for the unit nurses. Utilizes clinical expertise to teach nurses informally on the unit in a structured role or through formal teaching in classes. Leads in the development of Performance Improvement, or Evidence Based Practice, or research at the unit level. Meets at least one form of advancing practice in the continuum of research: PI, EBP, or research. Leads at least one primary project that uses a model as the project's framework. The selected model must be identified within the portfolio. Performs charge role as scheduled; coaches new charge nurses. Oversees unit orientation program. Serves as an expert preceptor, coach and mentor to new nurses, students and preceptors.


What You Need to Be Successful:


Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. BSN or Conferred BSN degree required. Current CPR certification required. Relevant clinical work experience related to practice on the unit. Maintenance of 20 contact hours of education every two yearss Member of a professional organization. Must be at least a 0.50 FTE.

What You Will Do
Masters or doctoral prepared nurse with Clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate who applies clinical expertise in evidence-based nursing practice within three spheres of influence; 1) patient/client, 2) nurses/nursing practice, and 3) organization/system in the following roles: clinical expert, educator, researcher, consultant and leader. Recommends and set the standard for professional nursing practice, establishes appropriate patient care measures, and evaluates outcomes.

Required Qualifications

• Master's Degree or doctoral prepared nurse.
• 3 Years recent clinical experience.
• California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED
• Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED
• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) - Various-Employee provides certificate -REQUIRED

Other Qualification Requirements

• NIHSS is required within 90 days of hire.
  Certification in specialty area of practice highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• A clinical expert in theory and/or research-bases nursing practice within a specialty area that functions in the following roles: leader, consultant, mentor, change agent within three spheres of influence: nurses/nursing practice, patient/client, and organization/system.

Starting Pay for RN: $34.00/hr.

Starting Pay for LPN: $28.00/hr.

36 hours per week (.90 FTE)
Option 1: T ues -F ri , 9 hours/day, ) 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or
Option 2: Mon: 8 hour/day, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tues - Fri, 7 hours/day, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Staff Nurse:

• Maintain immunization records and update immunization status as needed.
• Care for sick and injured students, promote good health, and prevent illness.
• Conduct cursory medical exams.
• Treat minor injuries and illnesses according to physician instructions; assist physician in treating serious accidents or illness; provide follow-up care as required.
• Prepare and administer specified medications.
• Assist with Center's family planning and disease prevention programs.
• Supervise health occupation students assigned to practicum/work.

Job Requirements:

Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with a valid Oregon license to practice professional nursing.
