Basic Qualifications

Daily Responsibilities:
The
Clinical Pharmacist
provides timely drug therapy for Medicaid health plan members by processing prior authorization and medical necessity requests for specialty medications.

Develop and design specialty medication clinical edits for claims adjudication and enhanced drug utilization review
Provide clinical guidance, support and oversight to the assigned Pharmacy Technicians
Develop and review guideline criteria for prior authorization and non-formulary drugs in support of Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee function and pharmacy benefit design
Ensure and evaluate quality controls and implement opportunities for performance improvement in pharmacy practice specific to specialty pharmacy

The pharmacy residency is an organized, directed, postgraduate training in a defined area of pharmacy practice. The graduate will have refined skills in drug therapy management, disease state management, patient consultation, interviewing techniques, laboratory test interpretation and physical assessment. The graduate will be able to communicate and function effectively with other health care professionals in the IHS and understand their roles and those of the organization.
Duties:
* Performs clinical assignments of advanced scope and complexity under general supervision.
* Applies a number of standard principles, methods, and practices as necessary in order to adapt practices and techniques to specific situations.
* Provides information and consultative advice to patients and providers on drug contraindications, adverse effects of drugs, and therapeutic drug selection options.
* Participates in inter- and intra-departmental hospital training programs for such groups as physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, pharmacists, and community health representatives.
* Performs physical assessment of patients, and with medical staff approval and local privileging, may assess patients and select, initiate, adjust, and monitor medication regimens, which may include assessing current disease status or diagnosis of new medical conditions.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: All applicants must have passed the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE). Applicants also must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Those who will be meeting the Education and Licensure requirement within the 9-month period will be tentatively qualified and referred. If selected, you will be required to provide Official Transcript and Valid Pharmacy License before appointment.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.
Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent doctoral degree.

Additional information
Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
