DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Compounding Pharmacy Technician: Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physician, and other hospital personnel. Doses medications under the supervision of a pharmacist. Maintains inventory of medications and supplies, and reorders them accordingly. Restocks and maintains automated dispensing machines and anesthesia machines. Processes records of medications dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges, and enters them into the computer system. Prepares, evaluates, and interprets medication usage, including narcotic usage, into applicable reports. Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies in appropriate storage conditions. Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities. Assists the Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly. Is able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and knows to consult with the Pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety, and reduces the likelihood of medical and healthcare errors. Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner. Performs other pharmacy related duties as requested or required. Applies common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Deals with problems involving several variables in particular situations. Recognizes inappropriate dosing based on available dosage forms for various age groups. Completes annual education requirements. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Maintains regulatory requirements. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion. Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. Cooperates with employees in the pharmacy, and in other departments to provide optimal customer service. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. Demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
