Introduction This is a professional clinical work providing crisis-oriented clinical services, including on-scene assessments of adults, juveniles, veterans, indigent individuals, etc., to assess their current issues and treatment needs while deescalating the situation. Nature Of Work An employee in this class is a member of a co-responder team consisting of a behavioral health clinician and a sworn officer of the Tampa Police Department (TPD). Most of the time will be spent with law enforcement as a partner, responding alongside the police officer to the scene for calls involving behavioral health disturbances. This position will focus on individuals identified as high utilizers of crisis stabilization units, emergency rooms, and calls for police service related to behavioral health issues. Under general direction, employees exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in selecting work methods/techniques and formulating recommendations to deescalating the situation while continuing assessment and determining potential treatment needs. Work is reviewed through conferences, oral and written reports, and observation of results obtained. Examples of Duties Accepts and takes the lead on specific Behavioral Health calls for services; Serve as Subject Matter Expert (S.M.E.) related to issues of mental health and substance abuse disorders and treatment needs. Identify needs and recommend services to individuals identified as high utilizers of crisis stabilization units, emergency rooms, and calls for police service related to behavioral health issues. Provides crisis intervention at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, including involuntary hospitalization, USF community consultation, and post-incident debriefing 10%: Attends Counseling Center meetings, serves on Counseling Center, divisional or University committees and in regional, state, and national organizations, as assigned. Responsibilities may include special assignments as determined by the Leadership Team, including committee tasks, clinical supervision, embedded services, coordination of specialized clinical service programs, or program outcome evaluation/research. 10%: Supervises the clinical, academic, and research experiences of post-doctoral fellows, doctoral level clinical and counseling psychology interns, and practicum students enrolled in mental health academic training programs (e.g., clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, mental health counseling, school psychology). 10%: Participates in Counseling Center sponsored outreach and consultation programming for the university community. Develops and participates in psychoeducational presentations, as assigned, for all USF students. Utilizing diverse therapeutic approaches, clinical psychologists aim to improve individuals' well-being by addressing psychological concerns and promoting mental health. Through observation, interviews, and tests, the psychologist will diagnose any existing or potential disorders. Then, together with the client, they formulate a program of treatment according to the client's needs. Psychologists monitor the client's progress on a regular basis to ensure that their needs are met by the course of action, and to adjust it if necessary. On the job, clinical psychologists: Identify psychological, emotional or behavioral issues Diagnose psychological, emotional or behavioral disorders Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic processes Help clients define goals and plan action to achieve personal, social, educational and vocational development and adjustment Monitor client progress through regular meetings or sessions Teach classes Conduct research Publish research findings in industry journals
