POSITION SUMMARY:
A Mental Health Counselor has specialized therapeutic training in the field of trauma and child abuse to support severe cases of mental health issues in our schools. Students who would be candidates for their services include: children with significant trauma and/or abuse histories who are unable to be productive members of the classroom because of the severity of their symptomatology, students who are expressing suicidal or homicidal ideation, students with disruptive behaviors and no known etiology, students who have witnessed violence, students who are sexually reactive, or students having signs of a serious mental illness, including but not limited to, psychotic features. The Mental Health Counselor works with identified students and their families to provide best practice wrap-around mental health services. Collaborates with outside services and sets up appropriate resources for family access. The goal is to provide short term therapeutic assessment with interventions to stabilize and cessate maladaptive behaviors. The Mental Health Counselor also serves as a part of the school's crisis response team for students and staff and is called upon to provide consultation and support as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Holds a master's degree, from an accredited college or university, in counseling or in a human services related field and is licensed or eligible for a license.

The IOP Program Coordinator is responsible for the provision on Intensive Outpatient Services. This includes individual, group and family counseling, skill building, psycho-educational services, clinical documentation, and crisis intervention. This position will require on call services as needed. Required education and/or minimum qualifications:

· Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis
o Perform detailed biopsychosocial and addiction-specific assessments.
o Diagnose substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions using DSM-5 criteria.
o Evaluate clients' readiness for change and identify barriers to recovery.
· Treatment Planning and Implementation
o Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on recovery goals.
o Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT).
o Incorporate relapse prevention strategies and psychoeducation into therapy sessions.
· Group and Individual Therapy
o Facilitate therapy groups, including IOP, focused on addiction, relapse prevention, coping skills, and trauma.
o Conduct individual counseling sessions to address clients' unique needs and challenges.
o Promote skill-building for emotional regulation, stress management, and healthy relationships.
· Crisis Intervention and Support
o Respond to acute crises, including relapses, and provide immediate support and stabilization.
o Collaborate with medical and psychiatric providers for medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and crisis management.
· Collaboration and Case Management
o Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including addiction counselors, psychiatrists, nurses, and case managers.
o Coordinate referrals to external services such as housing, employment, and medical care.
o Advocate for clients' needs within the healthcare and legal systems.
· Education and Support
o Provide psychoeducation to clients and their families about addiction, mental health, and recovery.
o Empower clients with tools for long-term sobriety and emotional resilience.
· Documentation and Compliance
o Maintain accurate and timely records of assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
o Adhere to state and federal regulations regarding addiction treatment (e.g., HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2).
· Professional Development
o Participate in ongoing training and supervision to enhance addiction and mental health treatment clinical skills.
o Stay current on best practices and emerging trends in addiction recovery and co-occurring disorders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Master's degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
· Current licensure as an LCSW in Virginia.
· Experience working with clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
· Proficiency in evidence-based practices for addiction treatment (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, CBT for SUDs).
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a trauma-informed approach.
· Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and clinical documentation.
