Key Responsibilities:
Conduct individual and group psychotherapy sessions for patients in a subacute or skilled nursing facility.

This full-time position reports either directly or through a Program Director to the Clinical Director of Psychiatry in the Division of Correctional Health Services and is responsible for the clinical oversight, management, and innovative development in specific mental health treatment areas, including standard mental observation (MO) units, specialty MO units and general population clinic settings in one of the 12 jail facilities in New York City. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. The service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re-entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city.
The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the clinical integrity of the specific program or housing area to which they are assigned, including ensuring that all clinicians are providing appropriate and timely clinical interventions and documentation. Depending on the treatment area, s/he manages patient admissions and discharges, monitors and engages in treatment, oversees quality assurance, manages on-going training and education for treatment-area staff, and performs other managerial administrative tasks including liaising with DOC. MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
The SocialWorker position requires a wide range of clinical skills including interviewing, individual and group counseling and a thorough knowledge of the substance abuse, mental health and human service system resources. The SocialWorker is responsible for the assessment and treatment of clients that have co-occurring mental health issues requiring a specialized group curriculum.
Additionally, the SocialWorker is responsible for the role of Health Coordinator to assure the provision of education and/or referral for communicable diseases. The SocialWorker functions as part of the Multidisciplinary team, and is responsible for the review of treatment plans as a Qualified Health Professional (other then CASAC). The SocialWorker is on the Quality Assurance team and is responsible for the review of client records to meet regulatory, billing and utilization review compliance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complete clinical assessment and re-assessments at regular intervals to measure progress towards addressing life areas deficiencies.
Provide individual counseling to address outstanding family, medical, psychiatric, and housing concerns.
In collaboration with each consumer, formulates a treatment plan, monitor achievement of objectives, review and update treatment plans in accordance with regulatory requirements and as clinically indicated.
Conduct evidence-based group counseling services related to a wide range of clinical and community issues.
Maintain up-to-date resident charts including assessments, treatment plans, case notes and documentation of collateral contacts.
Provide crisis intervention services.
Assist in the development and implementation of consumer discharge plans.
Work closely with utilization review staff to ensure completion and accuracy of all necessary health insurance authorization documentation.
Establish community and agency affiliations which address consumer needs and strengthen the delivery of services.
Function as liaison and provide education and direct services to family members, as appropriate, in regards to consumer's substance use and related behavioral issues.
When necessary due to staff absences or vacancies, maintains a caseload.
When necessary, conduct consumer screening for contraband and collection of samples for urine toxicology testing.
Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and case conferences.
When necessary, facilitate case conferences and conduct internal chart audits.
Attend all required in-service training seminars.
Participate in quality improvement activities.
Function as “Manager” on Duty in the absence of an on-site manager.
Other relevant duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy required.
One (1) year experience working in a social service setting providing group counseling, family therapy and case management with chemically dependent clients preferred;
NYS Licensure as a SocialWorker, Mental Health Counselor or Marriage and Family Therapist preferred. Individuals obtaining a limited permit will be considered meeting this requirement.
