Our mental health team is seeking a full-time, passionate, and dedicated Crisis Worker to be responsible for providing telephone crisis intervention and mobile services to distressed Westmoreland County residents. As a Crisis Worker, you will use informed counseling skills to:
Provide crisis intervention services including psycho-educational coaching, resource information, and referrals and after care to individuals exhibiting acute behavioral problems, disturbed thoughts, mood and/or social conflicts,
Maintain 24/7 call center presence through three different shifts in a fast paced environment, and
Travel using agency vehicle to respond to acute and emergency calls where such cases warrant.
Westmoreland Community Action (WCA) is a non-profit organization that works to connect individuals and families to opportunities and resources throughout the community to improve their quality of life and help to reduce poverty in the community. This is accomplished through housing, counseling, support, education, intervention, collaborations, partnerships, information, referrals, and networking.
The Mobile Crisis Team provides face-to-face intervention, assisting those in crisis during a variety of situations, addressing such issues as suicidal and homicidal ideation, concern for friend or family members, and behavioral health concerns. This service is an expansion of the Crisis Hotline and assists persons seeking mental health support or services. The Crisis Hotline is available 24/7 to provide assistance for individuals in crisis or for individuals seeking assistance for another person in crisis. Calls are answered by a trained crisis worker who will identify the crisis and assist with support, offer resources about community services, and treatment providers.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in sociology or related field OR
High school diploma and twelve semesters in sociology or related field, of which one year must be mental health direct care experience OR
Six years experience providing mental health crisis intervention services.
Direct experience in crisis intervention with the ability to assess and respond to crisis situation and knowledge of counseling skills.
Proficiency with computer software preferred.
Must be available to work 12:00 AM (Midnight) to 8:00 AM shift.
Ability and willingness to work various shifts.
Must be able to obtain child abuse, state police, fingerprint-based criminal background check, and sex offender registry clearances.
Valid driver's license required and must carry $15,000/$30,000 bodily liability car insurance.
Provide a certificate of or be able to complete Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training.

Description of Duties:
•Must provide quality services at all times to residents regardless of medical, psychiatric behavioral issues (i.e. CPR, first aid, behavioral programming and goal plans).
•Must be cooperative and remain flexible in work schedule adjustments to meet the needs of program operations for all 365 days in the year i.e. (holidays, resident illness, appointments, inclement weather)
•May be requested to work at other sites to ensure that consumer and program needs are met. An orientation binder will be available at each site. Employees are responsible for familiarizing themselves with this information and completing the sign-off sheet.
•Must be able to stay awake throughout your shift as well as not leave residents unattended until a staff person arrives to relieve you of duty.
•Must be able to work independently, under stress and change while performing multiple tasks simultaneously. Cannot impose personal beliefs and practice.
•Must remain calm, cooperative and supportive while on duty, especially in emergency and unsettling circumstances.

•Assists consumers with applying for appropriate financial assistance, developing a budget, establishing checking/savings accounts, and preparing tax forms, rebates, etc.
•Educates and assists consumers with daily living skills such as menu planning, meal preparation, household chores, laundry and personal hygiene.
•Assesses, educates, and assists consumers with public transportation, which includes accompanying them on the bus when necessary.
•Provides orientation to the local community with location of pharmacies, grocery stores, recreational facilities, hospitals, doctors, and dentists.
•Educates consumers on emergency procedures such as fire safety, natural disasters, loss of utilities, violence and abuse
