POSITION SUMMARY
The Mental Health Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, clinical and/or administrative supervision, and monitoring of a Behavioral Health services delivery system in MA DOC Secure Treatment Units meeting NCCHC/ACA standards. The Mental Health Coordinator works with the Regional Manager, Site Administrator, Medical Director, and Psychiatrist to coordinate total contract services in MA DOC Secure Treatment Units

Must be fluent in English language, including reading, writing, and must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information. Must be a supportive team member, who contributes to and demonstrates teamwork and team concept. Able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCES
Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Licensed to practice behavioral health services in the state where services are being delivered (LICSW or LMHC required).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Acts as point of contact for administrative staff for discussion of treatment unit programs and problem resolution as needed.
Coordinates development and revision of policies and procedures for the identification, assessment, and provision of required clinical services for inmates housed in Secure Treatment Units.
Supervises the planning, development and implementation of treatment programs contracted to VitalCore.
Provides clinical and/or administrative supervision to staff of Behavioral Health Services within Secure Treatment Units.
Monitors efforts of Behavioral Health Services in Secure Treatment Units to ensure clinical services are being provided in a timely, professional manner.
Provides and assigns clinical on-call duties.
Provides direct clinical services including individual and group treatment, crisis intervention, as well as providing shadowing and mentor opportunities to front-line clinical staff.
Ensures treatment programs contracted are integrated and appropriately staffed.
Provides administrative support to behavioral health staff.
Coordinates with the facility's Behavioral Health Quality Improvement Program.
Attends training and meetings as required.
Maintain proficiency with all software required for the position, and more specifically, clinical documentation in the designated electronic health record system.
Other duties as assigned.

Your Job as a Substance Use Counselor:

* Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), including methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone.
* Experience conducting individual and group counseling sessions focused on substance use recovery.
* Knowledge of evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and relapse prevention techniques.
* Documentation experience, including maintaining clinical notes, treatment plans, and progress updates in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

* Experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary team with medical staff, case managers, and peer support specialists.

Minimum Education Required Master's Degree Shift First Shift Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive clinical assessments including inmates placed on suicide watch and those inmates who submit sick call slips
Provide ongoing evaluation and psychological monitoring of all inmates on psychiatric medication
Screen inmates for possible mental health conditions.
Respond to crisis calls from jail staff and/or family members
Attend daily triage meetings
Maintain necessary documentation to include, assessments, watch forms, medication verification sheets, file notes, and treatment plans
Assist with segregation, restraint, and Department of Correction evaluations.
Qualifications
Master's Degree in related counseling field and at least one year of relatable experience. License-eligibility (LICSW, LMHC) required.
Must have working knowledge of current version of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
Basic computer knowledge.
Excellent communication skills.
Must hold a valid driver's license and have access to an operational and insured vehicle.

Key Responsibilities
Provide client-centered and culturally responsive individual therapy to a wide range of clients

Qualifications
Required:
Masters in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field
Independent licensure (or license eligible) in Massachusetts: LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent

Strong foundation in evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions
Excellent communication, collaboration, and time management skills
Proficiency with EHR and clinical documentation
Preferred:
Training or certification in child/adolescent-focused modalities (e.g., play therapy, CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, parent coaching)

Under direction of the Registered Nurse, the MHS provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu

Essential Functions
-Assists the RN in providing direct patient care.
-1 Accurate and timely documentation of AFS, progress notes, and observation sheets.
-2 Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients, maintaining professional boundaries.
-3 Participates in patient rounds or teams.
-4 Completes patient care assignments.
-5 Identifies patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis; utilizes non-verbal and verbal.
-Techniques to de-escalate crisis situation.
-6 Intervenes in managing complex patient situations and patient schedules, utilizing department policies and procedures, always promoting the least restrictive alternatives.
-7 Communicates changes in patient status to RN.
-8 Follows Standards of Care and protocols for assigned patients.
-9 Remains awake and alert at all times while on the job.
-10 Performs Point of Care testing (POC).
-Works effectively in the therapeutic milieu.
-1 Participates in planning and implementation of patient groups.
-2 Provides and supervises recreation and other off-hall activities according to needs.
-3 Provides patients with direction, support, and supervision as needed.
-4 Follows established Nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
-5 Active milieu assessment while assigned to checks, particularly attuned to safety concerns.
-Participates in the maintenance of the unit environment to ensure safe care.
-1 Identifies and reports house cleaning problems to Unit Secretary/ND.
-2 Identifies and reports equipment problems to Unit Secretary/ND.
-3 Participates in the unit's inventory system, reporting when supplies are low.
-4 Initiates activities that assist patients in maintaining a clean environment.
-5 Initiates activities that promote an organized, safe patient and staff environment.
-Assists patients in their activities of daily living.
-1 Identifies patient hygiene needs; initiates and implements interventions to meet these needs.
-2 Provides for patients' nutritional needs according to unit procedure.
-3 Assists and reassures patients during tests, exams, and procedures.
-4 Escorts and supervises patients on and off ground, maintaining patient safety.
-Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency.
-1 Completes mandatory in-service requirements.
-2 Identifies areas of strengths and areas in need of professional development with supervisor.
-3 Maintains competency for treating age-specific patient populations.
-4 Seeks constructive feedback, regarding work performance, from peers and professional colleagues.
-5 Participates in critical incident de-briefing.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials
Experience
One year of clinical experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting 1-2 years preferred and Previous experience in direct patient care preferred preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work in collaboration with others.
- Must complete and pass Epic training within 30 days of hire.
- Successful passing (80% or higher) of Epic training modules(s) is a minimum requirement of the job.
