The Psychiatrist manages the operation and provides overall direction and leadership for the provision of the mental health services in the facility. This position has the primary responsibility of providing administrative and clinical coordination for the comprehensive mental health care program for the inmates/residents.
The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.
Report to assigned facility at designated hour to provide direct patient care and associated clinical duties.
Participate in civil commitment proceedings.
Assess and provide a DSM diagnosis as appropriate.
Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications.
Provide a variety of professional services to include counseling, disease process and central, ordering necessary lab work and reviewing results.
Supervise and provide mentorship to other facility based mental health staff.
Assess the needs of mental health services, collect and maintain statistics and data and prepare necessary reports pertaining to mental health services.
Evaluate and recommend methods of improving operational efficiency and cost effectiveness of mental health related services.
Accept on call status.
Provide direct casework services and individual, group and family counseling to inmates/residents and their families.
Assist in developing and implementing treatment and therapeutic programs for assigned inmates/residents; assist inmates/residents to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
Prepare progress reports; provide recommendations regarding discharge plans; make case presentations; and assist administrative and medical staff in development of statistical reports on assigned inmates/residents.
Serve as mental health staff liaison in group counseling, volunteer activities and other events designed to promote mental health services to inmates/residents.
Assist in supervision of inmates/residents, both within the facility and while in community activities; promote positive community relations and utilize community services, as needed.
Maintain and monitor confidentiality of inmates/residents and their files; audit files to determine that all services provided are documented; review status of inmates/residents to verify that all treatment and therapeutic programs are completed.
Assist in coordinating professional services provided by contract personnel, if applicable, and provide for that their needs to be addressed.
Prepare and maintain a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary and/or operational records, reports and logs, using appropriate grammar, to include filing, alphabetizing and labeling; review reports and records produced by staff. Properly process all reports and documents in a timely manner.
Attend scheduled staff meetings, group meetings and other staff and group activities essential for effective program and service delivery and to promote communications and the proper flow of relevant information between administration, staff and inmates/residents.
Utilize established corporate, facility and correctional policies and procedures in making decisions, but perform with a high degree of independence and professional administrative skill and use sound independent judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.
Review, process and respond (via corporate counsel) to lawsuits; attend court hearings, when necessary.
Read, analyze, comprehend and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents, including the processing of such documents as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons and other legal writs.
Communicate effectively and coherently to administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors and the general public, particularly in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, understanding, fairness, firmness and good judgment. This includes giving information, instructions and directions; mediating disputes; advising of rights and processes; and providing reliable testimony, in court and other formal settings.
Maintain equipment and supplies as required, order replacement items in a timely manner via the purchase order system.
Endure verbal and mental abuse when confronted with the hostile views and opinions of inmates/residents and others, e.g. visitors and family members, encountered in an antagonistic environment.
Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
Take appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
Experience exposure to body fluids, wastes and experience encounter with deceased or contagious persons.
Endeavor to comply with the requirements of applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards and/or contract.
Be aware that verbal abuse may be present with the hostile views and opinions of inmates/residents and others encountered in an antagonistic environment.
Establish and maintain effective working relations with others and handle difficult interpersonal contacts.
Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Participate in in-service and other training programs as required.
Report to assigned facility at designated hour to provide direct patient care and associated clinical duties.
May be assigned the duties of any position in an emergency situation.
Remain alert at all times and react quickly, efficiently and calmly in emergency and other high stress situations.
Qualifications:
Graduate from an accredited college or university with an advanced degree in psychology, or an appropriate degree in a related clinical area and appropriate certification or license (or meet educational requirements for licensing in the state of employment, if greater).
Five years clinical experience, which includes two years in a comparable position.
A valid driver's license is required.
Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.

Client Service:

Call Management:
Answer all phone calls in a punctual and professional manner while meeting the call targets as set by management. Calls cannot be missed.
Check voicemail messages, make sure to obtain complete information before routing the call.
Attend to faxes received in a timely manner (check fax machine once every hour)
Call in appointment reminders for all providers.
Coordinate messages between patients and physicians. If consult calls are received, they must be properly handled and routed to the correct provider. In case of emergency (demise of a patient) office manager and provider MUST be informed immediately. Be sure to note any conversations that occur also.
Insurance verification:
Schedule patients while paying close attention to obtaining and inputting the correct and required information (for billing purposes). Reverify information with the patient before ending the call.
Complete insurance verification for all providers in the facility. Insurance verification should be done each time the patient comes in for a visit, to ensure patient insurance is still active/accurate.
Ensure all patient balances are accurate and up to date.
Explain to the patient any inquiries they have about their insurance. If unable to answer inquiries, employees can get with a biller or supervisor to find the best solution.
Must be able to keep up with patients' statements and report.
Administrative tasks:
Receive packages and, make sure they are attended to and distributed to the appropriate person.
Keep patient files organized and confidential.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Work well with fellow employees.
Ensure there is someone there to cover you when leaving your desk.
Dress according to the dress code provided for your department scrubs). Look presentable.

The Therapist facilitates regular therapy sessions and monitors client progress from the point of intake/referral, through treatment, to discharge and aftercare. For youth that are enrolled in Wraparound Care Coordination, the therapist also works with the Wraparound Team, as facilitated by the Care Coordinator, to develop and implement the Individualized Service Plan for each identified client/family. The Day Treatment Therapist enhances resources available to each family through offering options for additional services, education, and support. The Therapist coordinates the flow of clinical information across agencies and providers while protecting the confidentiality of individuals served.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Can articulate the mission, vision and values of Choices, the practice of evidence-based interventions and therapeutic services compliant with Medicaid regulations for enrolled individuals.
Facilitates evidence-based interventions through individual, family, and group therapy sessions, clinically assesses and re-assesses individuals as required, and participates as an active team member in the Wraparound process for each family enrolled in Wraparound.
Provides participating youth and family members with counseling to meet underlying needs and support, increase, or restore capacity for self-sufficiency.
Maintains population-specific competencies to ensure effective delivery of services to youth and families.
Provides screening, assessment, treatment planning, evidence-based therapeutic intervention, re-assessment, discharge/aftercare planning and referrals as needed.
Completes client documentation in accordance with Medicaid, state, federal, and DCS contract requirements.
Completes client documentation within established timelines.
Provides crisis intervention as required and follow-up clinical assessment with client(s) involved to determine need for appropriate clinical course of action.
Attends Child/Family/Team meetings and Treatment Plan Reviews and documents outcomes as needed.
Meets regularly with supervisor or designee for clinical supervision and seeks further supervision when appropriate and necessary.
Self-monitors billing and productivity levels and gives feedback to supervisor regarding workflow and/or billing concerns.
Communicates timely with the Clinical Supervisor, Care Coordinator, and other members of the clinical team to coordinate services to youth and families.
Maintains appropriate boundaries with youth and families receiving services.
Willingly completes other duties as assigned to advance the mission of Choices.
Qualifications
Master's Degree in social work, psychology, or a related human service field required, with at least two years of full-time experience providing direct mental health counseling and/or case management services preferred. Mississippi license strongly preferred (Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Psychologist)
Minimum required certification/licensure as PCMHT/CMHT, LMFTA, P-LPC or LMSW.
Maintains active clinical license/certification, as applicable, per respective professional license board.
Maintains active certification in specialized areas of practice and selected evidence-based treatment modalities.
Demonstrated skills in assessment tools, therapy with youth and families, crisis intervention, team building and development.
Strong communication and writing skills. Bi-lingual skills (Spanish) a plus.
Highly organized, and effectively manages multiple priorities simultaneously.
Professionally articulate in communicating (oral and written) system development, change and outcomes.
