Clinton Foundation company history timeline

1997

The origins of the foundation go back to 1997, when then-president Bill Clinton was focused mostly on fundraising for the future Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

2001

He founded the William J. Clinton Foundation in 2001 following the completion of his presidency.

2002

By 2002, Williams had recruited Booz Allen Hamilton, a management consulting firm, and New York University business school students to mentor Solomon and other small-business owners in Harlem.

2004

But the truly big brainstorm of the Clinton Foundation’s early years came on that plane to Davos in 2004.

Longtime Clinton advisor Bruce Lindsey became the CEO in 2004.

2005

The 2005 meeting began a golden age for the Clinton Foundation; now energized and well funded, it started to expand in all directions.

2006

He left the foundation in 2006.

2007

In 2007, Slim made an even bigger pledge: $100 million, to support Clinton Foundation projects in Latin America, where Slim’s telecom business is active.

But then, in 2007, Hillary Clinton began running for president.

2008

Accordingly, a list of donors was released in December 2008.

The foundation hired Maura Pally, now acting chief executive, who worked previously for Hillary Clinton at the State Department and served as deputy counsel for her 2008 presidential campaign.

2009

By 2009, the foundation had grown to a $242-million-a-year organization.

Preceding Barack Obama's 2009 nomination of Hillary Clinton as United States Secretary of State, Bill Clinton agreed to accept a number of conditions and restrictions regarding his ongoing activities and fundraising efforts for the Clinton Presidential Center and the Clinton Global Initiative.

2010

The Clinton Health Access Initiative (formerly the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative) has been incorporated as a separate, but affiliated, non-profit organization since 2010.

2011

By 2011, Chelsea Clinton was taking a dominant role in the foundation and had a seat on its board.

2012

By 2012, that mentoring program — renamed the Clinton Economic Opportunity Initiative — had recruited hundreds of volunteers over its life.

2013

In July 2013, Eric Braverman was named CEO of the foundation.

2014

To raise money for the foundation, she gave paid speeches, such as her $65,000 2014 address at the University of Missouri in Kansas City for the opening of the Starr Women's Hall of Fame.

2015

In January 2015, Braverman announced his resignation.

2016

In 2016, Reuters reported that the Clinton Foundation suspected that it had been the target of a cyber security breach.
