The Close Up Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic education organization in Washington, DC Established in 1971. Close Up's mission is "informing, inspiring, and empowering young people to exercise the rights and accept the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy - is deeply rooted." They offer impactful, hands-on programming to educate and inspire the youth to participate in the government. In the late 1960s, founder Steve Janger brought high school students from around the world in order to study foreign governments and later formed the foundation in 1971. Today, more than 850,000 students and teachers around the world have participated in its programs.
