Cloud9 company history timeline

2013

Cloud9 was then reacquired by Quantic Gaming on April 1, 2013, and later rebranded the team back to Cloud9.

Afterwards, all five players formed their own team under the moniker Team NomNom, and later rebranded to Cloud9 in early 2013.

2014

Jack Etienne, the owner of Cloud9, stated that he caught glimpse of the CS:GO scene at EMS One: Katowice 2014 and knew he wanted to hold a CS:GO team after seeing that event and eventually took up the opportunity to sign the former compLexity players, who placed in the 5-8 slot at the major.

At the next Major, DreamHack Winter 2014, the team were placed in Group A, alongside opponents Fnatic, HellRaisers, and Bravado Gaming.

In 2014, Cloud9 created divisions for Dota 2, Super Smash Bros.

2015

The organization disbanded their Smite division the same year due to internal issues, just prior to the start of the Smite Pro League, but it was reopened in January 2015.

2016

On September 6, 2016, the organization incorporated into Cloud9 Esports, Inc.

The week after, they finished with a 3-1 record at the PGL Krakow Major Qualifier, earning their first major spot since MLG Columbus 2016.

2017

In July 2017, Cloud9 created their Rocket League division.

Their second place finish at ESL One: Cologne 2017 put Cloud9 in the spotlight, projecting them as one of the best teams going into the Major.

2018

In June 2018, Cloud9 announced a major sponsorship deal with Red Bull, which included a deal that would place the Red Bull logo on the Cloud9 jerseys.

The success of the organization led to Jack Etienne being named Game Shakers' Shaker of the Year in December 2018, an award honoring people who have made a long-lasting impact in the esports industry and helped raise esports awareness around the world.

2019

The following table describes important changes to the AWS Cloud9 User Guide after March 2019.

They wanted to build the roster around autimatic and daps, the former leader of NRG. On July 2nd, 2019, the new roster of autimatic, daps, koosta, mixwell, and TenZ was announced.

In November 2019, Cloud9 was fined by Riot Games for violating League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) rules.

Since Cloud9 only had two of their starting five players from the previous major, Zellsis was listed as a coach at IEM Katowice 2019 in order to take Golden’s place on the roster, letting them play with two out of five players from the previous major.

Funding from the round was to be used to establish a 20,000–30,000 square foot (1,900–2,800 m) headquarters and training facility in Los Angeles, which was expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

Cloud9 was again ranked by Forbes as the world's most valuable esports company in 2019, along with Team SoloMid; the company was valued at $400 million, a $90 million increase over the previous year.

2020

Cloud9 created its Valorant division in April 2020, and in October, they created their first all-female esports team for Valorant.

However, at DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020, Cloud9 could not escape Group A and did not proceed to the knockout stages.

Forbes ranked Cloud9 was the world's second-most valuable esports company at $350 million in 2020, a 13% decrease from the previous year.

2022

After an year-long hiatus, Cloud9 announced its surprising return to Counter-Strike after acquiring the Gambit roster on April 24th, 2022.
