CMC Motocross company history timeline

1975

CMC was incorporated on 26 December 1975, as the 'Computer Management Corporation Private Limited'. The Government of India (GoI) held 100 percent of the equity share capital.

1977

On 19 August 1977, it was converted into a public limited company, again wholly owned by the GoI.

In 1977, the Janata Party government took office in India.

1978

In 1978, CMC took over the maintenance of IBM installations at over 800 locations around India.

1980

As early as 1980, CMC anticipated the way the world was moving and noted the market requirement for IT system improvements.

1982

Loretta Lynn's, as it's affectionately called, started in 1982, just a year after race promoting legend Dave Coombs stopped by the ranch and immediately took to it.

1984

CMC was renamed CMC Limited (Computer Maintenance Corporation) in August 1984.

1985

CMC Limited has the credit of introducing computer applications at a mass scale in the late 80s with its design and deployment of Indian Railways Reservation System IMPRESS (Integrated Multi-train Passenger Reservation System) in New Delhi on 15 October 1985.

1988

The elder Coombs passed away on August 3, 1988 - the first day of Loretta Lynn's that year. "The essence of Loretta Lynn's has not changed.

1993

In 1993, CMC's shares were listed on the Hyderabad Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

1996

Ricky Carmichael made his pro debut a few weeks after winning his final amateur title at Loretta's in 1996.

1997

The 1997 Economic Census showed that the NAICS 441221 motorcycle dealers showed 3,635 establishments with sales ($1,000) of 7,369,260.

2000

To service and develop its clientele in the UK and Europe, CMC opened a branch office in London in 2000.

2001

In October 2001, CMC was privatized by the GoI, and was divested to a leading Indian IT firm, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which is the largest software services company in Asia.

2003

S S Ghosh has completed his term as Managing Director and CEO on December 12, 2003.

In 2003, in line with its strategy of offering its products and services globally, CMC opened a branch office in Dubai to tap the hitherto unexplored markets of West Asia and Africa.

2004

Mike Alessi won seven titles at Loretta's and also started his pro career weeks after sweeping his final six Motos at Loretta's in 2004.

In 2004, the government disinvested its remaining 26.5 per cent stake in CMC to the public.

2005

Ryan Villopoto took the 125 A amateur title at Loretta's in 2005 before turning pro and, the same year, Ryan Dungey grabbed the 125 Modified 12-15 title before starting his pro career.

2008

Kalpana Morparia has been appointed as Independent Director on the Board of Comp. with effect from March 11, 2008.

2014

On 16 October 2014, thirteen years after the Tatas had acquired a majority stake in CMC, the Board of Directors of CMC decided to merge the company into Tata Consultancy Services Limited.

2015

The merger took effect on 1 October 2015.
