Purpose
Perform all levels of electrical engineering and design including the development of construction documents as well as project and staff management.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
* Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and broad parameters for execution. Receive direction on highly complex assignments. Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.

* Serve as mentor, resource, and trainer for Design Engineers and less experienced Project Engineers.

Do the Work
* Design of complex electrical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles, as applicable to project type.
* Create reports such as basis of designs, written narratives, field observations, letters to AHJ's, etc.
* Take responsibility for more complex tasks and/or designs within project assignments.
* Resolve complex design issues with clients.
* Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
* Oversee designs through project construction/completion.
* Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and the client.
* Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions and report on construction progress.
* Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
* Complete electrical calculations not limited to load studies, voltage drop, panel/transformer/feeder loading, generator sizing, illumination levels, etc.
* Design/layout of electrical system devices, distribution components, lighting, fire alarm, emergency and backup power systems and special systems as applicable to the project type.
* Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
* Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
* Define and determine project specifications and performance criteria.
* Address comments from clients, AHJ's and other review authorities; adjust designs accordingly.
* Review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals), as needed.
* Work within established project budgets.
* Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.
* Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.

The role of a Project Manager is to manage the design and delivery of large projects and maintain relations with current and future clients within our Energy business line. This opportunity specifically is on our Hydropower and Dams team. Candidate must be a hands-on problem solver willing to work through issues as they arise with staff, clients, offices, disciplines, and projects. They must also foster effective working relationships between colleagues, associates, clients, and officials. This position will have flexibility in working from home or a Stantec US office and may require some domestic and possibly international travel.
Your Key Responsibilities
Working in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients, and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies.
Maintaining and enhancing our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.
Managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Establishing project objectives, procedures and performance standards and leading multi-disciplinary teams on proposals, planning studies, feasibility through final designs, and construction services for Hydropower and Dams projects.
Identifying appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project objectives as well as managing contract terms, tracking, and managing costs and schedule, and implementing measures necessary to stay on schedule and within budget.
Leading by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including risk management, project management, and quality management.
Growing internal and external networks to enhance Stantec's reputation and identifying additional talent to join our team.
Providing mentoring and training for future leaders, including development of succession plans for key positions.
Developing client relationships to facilitate project activities.
Promoting collaboration and teamwork across business lines and geographies.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects from pursuit through closeout, involving internal personnel, subconsultants, contractors, and vendors.
Demonstrated successful experience in client service management.
Demonstrated successful experience in leadership, including defining and setting the direction for a team, project, and office; strategy development; change management; and corporate stewardship.
Demonstrated successful experience in preparing proposals that include preparing detailed scopes of work, assembling project budgets based on the detailed scope of work, and baseline schedules for executing the engineering services.
Demonstrated successful experience in decision making, including making sound defensible business decisions; and identifying, assessing, evaluating, and solving complex problems.
Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving, and risk management.
Demonstrated successful experience with preparing monthly financial updates.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Travel to other offices as well as to project sites will be required.
Education and Experience
Minimum 15 years' relevant experience in project management, preferably for Hydropower and Dams projects.
Bachelor's Degree in civil, structural, geotechnical, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.
Experience working with NYPA/NYS Canal Corp/NAVFAC/USACE preferred.

Design and Drafting: Develop civil engineering designs, including site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, and roadways using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
Permitting and Compliance: Prepare and submit permit applications to local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

Qualifications

Experience: 2-5 years of experience in civil engineering design, preferably in land development or municipal projects.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other relevant engineering software; knowledge of stormwater management software is a plus.
Licensing: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus or a willingness to obtain it.
Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
