Position Summary: This position provides a unique opportunity for hands-on engineering training. As such, this Co-Op, short for cooperative education, is a position within our team that would alternate a candidate's academic study with full-time rotational employment lasting approximately six months that would serve as a development and educational program. Cota's Engineering Co-Op program aims to meet the needs of the engineering team, seeking motivated talent and preparing them for future opportunities as the department grows. Working with rising sophomores and pursuing an engineering degree, these candidates will gain real-world experience in public transit as a potential career pathway. Working with an assigned mentor, the Co-Ops would work on dedicated projects that directly influence COTA operations and provide tangible deliverables. Additionally, the Co-Op would have monthly presentations, coaching, and a capstone project. Performs duties in alignment with the 2019 - 2024 COTA Strategic Plan and in support of the organization's vision To Move Every Life Forward. This Position is Responsible For: * Assist the engineering team with daily operations * Acquire foundational knowledge of vehicle systems including, and assist * Support the engineering team in the development and evaluation of all vehicle and equipment specifications. * Produce and analyze reports on the COTA fleet for Vehicle Maintenance and the Engineering staff * Learn, understand, and troubleshoot software and electrical systems utilized in the transit industry while ensuring the systems work in tandem and complement the operation of the fleet * Utilizes COTA's available technology including telematics, OEM software, and technical manuals * Utilize software available to monitor, measure, and report vehicle-related data * Interpret engineering drawings and schematics related to the following systems: propulsion, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and logic * Record and track the nature of various end-user requests and issues to perform trend analysis activities * Work with COTA's partners on joint projects * Support vehicle delivery, acceptance, and retirement of COTA's fleet * Research new technologies and data, such as telematics data usage, and new tools for data exploration and visualization * Assist in tracking fleet defects, OEM recalls and warranty campaigns * Effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to other areas of the organization * Must be experienced in Microsoft Office, notably Excel * Read, write, and comprehend instructions, correspondences, and memos to/from COTA employees, OEM vendors, and dealer representatives * Demonstrates excellent skills in problem-solving issues as well as the ability to work quickly when investigating and implementing technology solutions At Minimum You'll Need: * At least a sophomore pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Operations Management or Related Area * Cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0 or higher * Has access to reliable transportation and is geographically based within 20 miles of Columbus, OH * Established decision-making skills and ability to solve complex problems through innovation and creativity * Demonstrated ability to lead and work with teams and achieve timely results * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * ASE certification (+) * ASQ certification (+) COTA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind. Operations Research Engineers may help develop planning, blending, scheduling, and process models for refinery engineers. Typical college co-op assignments include: validation of production data and mass balancing, process modeling, and development of graphical interfaces of refinery process units. Environmental Engineers work on projects that involve the compliance of the entire refinery, and you will be exposed to the majority of process units in the refinery. Products Control / Economics Engineers may work on a wide array of projects including operations, blending, and refinery economics. You will gain an understanding of how a tank farm is operated and how gasoline and other products are prepared and shipped to customers.
