Core Work Scope & Responsibilities
MSPP Coach-Mentors serve as both a program leaders and a role model, overseeing after-school and Saturday sessions, integrating basketball instruction with SEL, literacy support, and leadership workshops. This position carries responsibility not only for athletic development but also for student well-being, family engagement, and equity-centered programming.
Reporting to PYB's Manager of Basketball Programs, he/she will be responsible for:
Program Leadership & Delivery
Support the Lead Coach-Mentor in leading after-school basketball sessions two days a week at the assigned school site.
Help ensure that all practices and off-court sessions reflect MSPP's balanced approach-combining athletic skill development, mentorship, academic encouragement, and leadership-building curriculum.
Collaborate with the Lead Coach-Mentor to deliver weekly on-court lesson plans and structured practice sessions.
Mentorship & Student Engagement
Serve as a positive role model for youth, promoting teamwork, discipline, leadership, and personal responsibility.
Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive team environment that emphasizes effort, respect, and sportsmanship.
Collaboration & Communication
Coordinate closely with school staff, MSPP administrators, assistant coaches, and academic partners to ensure smooth program operations.

Essential Functions
Serve as mentor for student-athletes to help facilitate their personal growth. Support the women's basketball student-athletes in their transitions to/from Drexel.
Coordinate the filming and edit practices/games; manage video equipment and digital storage.
Manage team electronic playbook including diagrams and video content. Use in-game tech systems (DVS Sports) to analyze plays and actions in real-time for coaching staff and players.
Observe practice for evaluation and analysis of performance with coaches only.
Participate in practice drills as permitted by NCAA rules and guidelines; Participate with or observe voluntary activities of student-athletes.
Advise coaching staff of individual and team performance.
Work with coaches and academic staff to monitor the progress of student-athletes.
Execute game and practice video needs of the Women's Basketball program including, copying, editing, reviewing, duplicating and cataloging video.
Analyze video of institution's opponents. Prepare scouting reports as directed by Head Coach.

Responsibilities Overview:
Work with Athletics Department with all aspects of our Sports Performance program, including but not limited to:
Assist in planning and delivering safe, effective, and age-appropriate strength and conditioning sessions;
Teach and reinforce proper movement mechanics, lifting technique, and training habits. - Support athletes' long-term athletic development through strength, speed, agility, and conditioning work;
Collaborate with the coaching staff to ensure consistency of training standards. - Help maintain a positive, supportive, and disciplined training environment;
Monitor athletes' effort and safety during all training activities;

Requirements:

Core Work Scope & Responsibilities
Academy Coach-Mentors serve as both instructors and role models, leading after-school and weekend sessions that balance basketball training with social-emotional learning, leadership development, and life skills enrichment. This role carries responsibility not only for athletic development, but also for student growth, family engagement, and culture-building. Reporting to PYB's Basketball Operations leadership, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Coaching & Player Development
Deliver on-court youth development plans, teaching basketball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and tactics.
Plan and lead practices that emphasize skill development, conditioning, teamwork, and game strategy.
Provide individualized coaching, feedback, and support to athletes and families.
Instill values of discipline, effort, and a strong work ethic.
Team Management
Collaborate with Program Coordinators and the Director of Basketball Operations to select players through tryouts (if applicable).
Manage game-day operations, including lineups, strategy, and in-game adjustments.

Travel, Competition & Events
Attend all required trainings, practices, tournaments, and team events.
Arrive early (15 minutes prior to start) to set up and remain after sessions for clean-up.

Ensure athlete safety, accountability, and positive conduct during all travel and competition.
Program Administration
Record and maintain accurate player attendance and performance data.
