Informed by a philosophy of nonviolence, Nonviolence Chicago will establish caring and sustained relationships with participants engaged in the cycle of violence. POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Associate Director of Reentry & Support Services, the SC2 Life Coach works directly with high-risk individuals in the community and accompanies them as they navigate the challenges associated to current or past involvement with the criminal justice system, work to establish a healthy and stable lifestyle, and overcome barriers to accomplishing their professional goals. This position not only provides services and resources to help achieve established goals, but also uses first-hand knowledge of the community to develop and maintain meaningful and effective relationships with participants, responds in the community as crises arise and draws out participant motivation to reach his/her potential. The SC2 Life Coach models prosocial behaviors and successful interpersonal relationships, provides the accountability necessary to achieving established goals, and mentors participants as they receive supportive services and attend court dates. As such, this role is a critical component of the long-term success of the SC2 Austin Collaborative. This position may also be a member of a Violence Prevention-Community Support Team (VP-CST), an innovative effort to provide trauma-informed therapeutic interventions to individuals who have experienced chronic exposure to firearm violence. Responsibilities Aids the Head Football Coach in the organization and operation of an effective and competitive football program, with responsibility for the defensive position group. Assists the Head Coach in the coordination of recruitment of student-athletes. Directs and maintains the strength and conditioning program for student-athletes during traditional and non-traditional seasons. Aids in the planning, organizing, and executing of all in-season practice sessions for the football program. Conducts on-field coaching during intercollegiate contests as determined by the head coach. Responsible for academic monitoring of student-athletes, reporting to the Head Coach on academic progress. Demonstrates a working knowledge of Elmhurst University, NCAA, CCIW and rules and regulations. Adheres to NCAA Compliance Regulations. Endorses and supports other sports within the athletic department and fulfills other secondary duties as outlined by the Head Coach or the Director of Athletics. Endorses and supports other areas within Student Affairs, the Dean of Students Office, including attendance at all meetings and service on committees when appointed. Interacts with all other college constituencies and actively participates in their events as a representative of the Athletic Department. Performs all summer duties (recruitment, summer camps, and clinics) and special projects as assigned by the Head Coach. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including extended periods of extreme heat and cold. Work requires frequent districtwide, statewide, and out-of-state travel for recruiting or attending athletic competitions. Required abilities include walking, navigating uneven or slippery surfaces, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods; may require lifting and transporting equipment in excess of 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; and using fine motor skills to operate and maneuver a range of athletic or training equipment.
