Definition of Classification:
The Assistant Football Coach will assist the Head Coach in multiple aspects of the operations of the football program. Also serves as a recruiter for the football program and assists with instruction, as assigned.
Reporting to the Head Coach, this position is responsible for furthering the mission of the University, the Department of Physical Education and Athletics, and the Bulldog Football program. This position may be required to travel for extended periods of time for athletic contests and recruiting activities. Requires flexibility to work nights and weekends as required by the teams' schedules.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Oversee and coach an offensive position in the program, along with other football specific duties.
Identifies, evaluates, recruits, and retains qualified prospective student-athletes.
Maintains effective communication with prospective student-athletes and Admissions Office.
Arranges and conducts on and off campus visits with prospective student-athletes.
Assists with coaching, training, and skill development of student-athletes as assigned.
Serves as the assistant recruiting coordinator for the football program, assisting the recruiting coordinator in all aspects of recruiting.
Function as an active team member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Accepts a collateral assignment (i.e., assist with game management, student-athlete education etc.) within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
Bachelor's degree.
Three years of football coaching experience. Preference given to those with at least one year of intercollegiate football coaching experience.
Experience in graphic design software, MS Visio and Pro Quick Draw is preferred.
A valid California Class C CA drivers' license with a good driving record is required. Note: Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class “C” driver's license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).
Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules.
Knowledge and understanding of the NCAA Division III philosophy.
Possess the ability to attract outstanding students to the University.
Knowledge and understanding of the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics in a private, liberal arts academic setting.
Strong interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with athletic participants.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills (BGCF) is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible members of our community. The joint CMS Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Program is comprised of student-athletes from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps Colleges and offers a comprehensive program of regular physical education, intramural, recreational, club and varsity sports. CMS varsity teams compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), as a member of NCAA Division III. The Program is comprised of 21 varsity sports (10 men's, 11 women's) and supports a student population of over 3,200 and a student-athlete population of approximately 530.
STAGS FOOTBALL
The Stags have a rich history of success on the field, having won 6 SCIAC Championships and have had four 8-win seasons (1970, 1986, 2023, 2024). In 2024, ten Stags were named All-SCIAC. In the classroom, the Stags have consistently excelled. In 2023-24, forty Stags were named to the SCIAC All-Academic Team.
BASIC FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for assisting the Head Football Coach in all facets of the program, including but not limited to: organizing and conducting team meetings, training, and practices, recruiting, team travel logistics, scholar-athlete development, and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. The assistant football coach develops and mentors approximately 20 student-athletes. This position is also involved in coaching special teams, including planning, scouting and player development. The assistant coach will be responsible for additional administrative responsibilities as assigned by the head coach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reporting to the Head Football Coach, the assistant coach works both independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Assist head coach with developing and implementing training and instruction for practices and competitions.
Responsible for all aspects of the Strength and Conditioning program for the football program, including the creation and implementation of unit programs (wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, etc.) for pre-season, regular season and permissible out-of-season workouts. Direct and supervise assistant football coaches in the execution of the strength and conditioning program.
Assist with the design of and independently facilitate pre- and post-game workouts, conditioning and training of the athletes.
Work with the offensive or defensive coordinator to create and implement offensive game plans.
Assist with administrative aspects of the sports program. This may include but is not limited to: prompt completion of all administrative paperwork, team travel logistics, creation of practice plans, scholar-athlete and team development, and collaboration with CMS athletics staff in sports medicine, business operation, compliance, equipment, facilities and events.
Participate in alumni and community outreach programs including public speaking engagements, clinics, camps and alumni events. May attend fundraising events in a supporting role.
Recruit and retain academically qualified student-athletes to the highly selective liberal arts institutions of Claremont McKenna College (CMC), Harvey Mudd College (HMC), and Scripps College.

EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

* Support the sports medicine staff to ensure student athletes welfare.
