1985: Nottingham Manufacturing Company is purchased.
In 1986, a merger with Vantona Viyella creates Coats Viyella.
By 1989, it began to look as if another famous name would have to be accommodated.
1991: Coats Viyella completes its purchase of Tootal Group plc.
In 1992, Coats Viyella cut 566 jobs at two North Ireland manufacturing facilities due to the recession and the increasing amount of cheaper imports that were available.
