Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, offers a uniquely structured educational program and environment that incorporates professional, public speaking and cultural arts activities. Majors are primarily offered in the liberal and performing arts and sciences, including: * Art * Creative Writing * German * Literature * Music * Gender Studies * Psychology * Theatre Several professional majors are also offered, such as Nursing, Neuroscience and Public Relations. All students, regardless of major, participate in the Coe Plan, which incorporates mandatory and optional activities such as: * Service learning * Research * Campus activities * Resume writing workshops * Interviewing workshops Part of the Coe Plan also involves classes across the curriculum, including writing, public speaking and cultural studies. College life also gives students the chance to participate in such activities as Music, Art and Theatre and a number of student organizations. Since Coe is so comprehensive, the admissions committee is interested in applicants who have both a strong academic record and a background in community service and extracurricular activities. The average GPA for entering students is 3.6 and the average ACT score is 25. In addition to an application, test scores and transcripts, applicants must submit a recommendation and a personal essay. Financial aid awards include merit scholarships, which can cover up to nearly the entire cost of tuition. A minimum grade point average between 3.0 and 3.20 is generally required. All students are automatically considered for these scholarships. Other sources of aid are need-based and include loans and federal grants. Students may obtain aid through several sources.
