Assist with any nursing duties as needed. Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition. Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal. Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of patients. *Administer or order diagnostic test. Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, staple removal, suturing and/or removal, wound care, and infection management. Educate patients and/or families about preventive care, family planning, medical issues, and use of medical treatment and or medications Maintain legible, accurate and confidential medical records, documenting all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, test performed, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations. Facilitate evaluation of record by physician(s) and receive and implement constructive directives. Stay abreast of clinical issues, improvement procedures, medications, warnings, etc. and apply them accordingly. Must keep up with CME's required for licensure. Analyze new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature, and hands-on training. The supervising physician need not be physically present at the time of the services but shall be immediately available by telecommunications and within reasonable travel distance to assume personal care. The NP is expected to understand and comply with all current laws, rules and regulations which govern the practice of Nurse Practitioners in the State of Georgia and will be acknowledging this by affixing their signature on the NP practice application. The NP may gather a database on select cardiothoracic patients, which may include a complete medical history and physical examination and medical record review. He/she may order the appropriate initial diagnostic studies and initiate and transcribe orders under the direct order of the physician.
