Global Labs team of Engineers and Technicians support the Qualification and Timely Release of all Calix HW and SW products by Developing and Maintaining a World Class Secure and Automated Global Test Infrastructure, with Policies, Processes and Standards to Ensure the Continuous Operation of an Efficient Lab Environment.
Serving as a key liaison for Global Labs Org, and reporting to the Lab Ops Manager, the Assistant Manager is expected to help ensure product development and release through best-in-class practices for timely and accurate resolution of LHD Tickets, a safe and productive work environment and 24 / 7 support of Product Testing Teams. Role may have between 5 - 10 direct reports.
Responsibilities:
Manage, motivate, oversee and work through, direct hired as well as contracted, Lab Techs to install equipment, setup and troubleshoot testbeds.
Serving as central point of contact for all stakeholders, responsible for overall planning, prioritizing, allocating resources, executing and monitoring to ensure timely, efficient and successful closure of LHD Tickets for new install projects and ongoing support.
Review LHD backlog and technician work load, prioritize and assign LHD Tickets to Technicians based on their area of expertise.
Management and ownership of timely, accurate and efficient servicing of Lab Helpdesk Tickets.
Develop relations and collaborate with key stake holders in the Product Development, Testing and Cloud Services Teams.
Manage customer expectations, foster open communication with internal team and external customers.
Essential to be able to balance multiple responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and develop project planning to meet tight deadlines.
Anticipate potential hurdles and find effective solutions to minimize delays in resolving tickets.
Participate and represent Global Labs in product release and LHD Status meetings.
Prepare and present detailed status report and turn around time for new projects and support tickets.
Position requires candidate to offer some flexibility in work schedule and be available for early / late for meetings, coordinating troubleshooting sessions, etc. Occasional travel may be required to visit labs and / or attend in-person meetings and events.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
4 - 6 years of Supervisory experience in a networking, fiber optics or similar type of field.
Experience Project Managing and Leading technical teams in an R & D environment.
Extremely Detail Oriented with Time Management and Organizational skills are a must.
Understanding of Juniper, Cisco and similar networking gear.
Understanding of lab design, network diagrams and rack layouts.
Understanding of switching systems, cabling, fiber optics, VOIP.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Skills
Bachelor or University Degree in Networking / Computer Science related field.
Experience in telco infrastructure and theory.
Familiar with Broadband Service Provider network

The base pay range for this position varies based on the geographic location. The PRC initiative has received substantial funding support to launch this major exciting new program.
The successful candidate will preferably have both earned Ph.D. degree and an additional advanced degree such as M.D., Pharm. D. or D.V.M. and as well as have an active extramurally funded research program that includes a human patient based clinical research component while it may also include a more basic laboratory-based research component. Applications from investigators using innovative contemporary approaches to study human cardiovascular function in health and disease with inclusion of clinical research trials in their program are welcomed. The faculty member will join 44 other faculty led teams at the FBRI, including 10 cardiovascular research teams. The primary responsibility for the position is to lead a strong extramurally funded leading-edge research program in cardiovascular science and will include some graduate teaching and mentoring of reserch projects of graduate, medical and undergraduate students.
The position will be located at the FBRI on Virginia Tech's health sciences and technology campus in Roanoke, Virginia, immediately adjacent to the VTC School of Medicine and the Carilion Clinic and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. There will be considerable opportunities to collaborate with our clinical partners. In addition to the position at the FBRI, the faculty member will also have a tenured or tenure-track (as appropriate) appointment in a VT department from among multiple colleges.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing community of scholars including scientists, physicians and physician-scientists focused on next generation approaches to cardiovascular research directed at having dramatic impacts on understanding, prevention, diagnoses, and treatment of disorders that impact cardiac function. Current project areas include:

2. Chromosome 7 aneuploidy syndromes: modeling monosomy 7 associated bone marrow failure and its role in clonal selection

We seek a full-time Research Tech to support our cellular, and in vivo studies. The role requires strong organizational skills, careful record keeping, and comfort working in a fast-paced research environment.
The key responsibilities will include if not limited to:
* Perform molecular biology workflows: DNA/RNA extraction, cloning, standard PCR genotyping, qPCR, gel electrophoresis.
* Support mouse studies: Main mouse colonies, perform genotyping, manage timed breeding, performing procedures (tail vein and intraperitoneal injections, routine blood collection) and sample collection (per approved protocols).
* Participate in laboratory projects involving the application of basic molecular biology techniques and mouse animal models.

How You'll Contribute:

Assist with sample receiving and specimen verification
Perform DNA amplification and NGS testing
Analyze NGS data for chromosomal abnormalities and accurately compile patient results into report summaries
Maintain laboratory equipment under the supervision of the laboratory manager
Complete regular cleaning and stocking of laboratory
Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements and standards for the laboratory

The Quality Control Technician inspects work performed by client employees, internal employees, or client subcontractors. Work is inspected for process and specification compliance against company/client guidelines. (This purpose is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon client.)
Essential Position Functions:
Inspect assigned work locations for compliance with client or company specifications and guidelines.
Inspections may include but are not limited to work safety, installation, and troubleshooting compliance.
Use appropriate testing equipment based upon client specifications.
Assist in preparing and developing inspection instructions and procedures.
Develop and create project specific checklists and standards.
Record and document inspection results and findings in applicable data sheets and forms.
Complete and submit inspection documentation to the appropriate supervisory personnel.
Ensure completion of inspections in a timely manner and track/report activities and metrics.
Drive safely to work sites and comply with all company/client safety standards.
Follow company/client standards by using related technical documentation.
Deliver feedback and supplemental training to employees/contractors as required.
Other duties assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma or GED preferred.
2 or more years of relevant inspection experience from the telecommunications, construction, or utilities industries. Equivalent, applicable experience in lower level role may be substituted.
Must be proficient with a Windows and Android operating systems (proficiency with a tablet is preferred).
Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications (emphasis on Excel).
Must be able to read blueprints and other technical documentation.
Must be able to operate testing equipment relevant to the inspections such as an OTDR.
Experience with a major MSO or Telecom Operator is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability required.
Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communications skills.
Must be able to work alone, and with a team.
Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
