Core Objective
The candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end physical deployment and logical validation of network infrastructure. You will be expected to diagnose issues across Layers 1, 2, and 3 of the OSI model, ensuring that physical connectivity aligns with logical configurations.
* Advanced Device Racking & Mounting
* Precision Placement: Interpret and execute Rack Elevation Diagrams (REDs) to mount high-density chassis (Cisco Nexus 9k, Catalyst 9500) and 1U/2U appliances.
* Mechanical Safety: Ensure proper use of rack rails, cage nuts, and stabilization kits. Manage weight distribution to maintain rack integrity.
* Power Sequencing: Connect dual-homed power supplies to diverse PDU sources (A+B feeds) and perform "pull tests" to verify seating.
* Structured Cabling & Fiber Management
* Fiber Optics: Expert-level handling of Single Mode (SMF) and Multi-Mode (MMF) fiber. Proficiency in cleaning connectors (IBC cleaners) and inspecting end-faces with fiber scopes.
* SFP/Transceiver Management: Correctly identify and install SFP, SFP+, QSFP+, and QSFP28 modules. Troubleshoot "link down" issues by verifying wavelength compatibility (e.g., 850nm vs 1310nm) and light levels.
* Patching & Labeling: Execute high-density patching in accordance with ANSI/TIA-606-B standards. Ensure every cable is labeled at both ends with Near-End/Far-End information.
* Patch Panels & Cross-Connects
* Circuit Extensions: Coordinate with Telco providers to extend circuits from the Meet-Me-Room (MMR) to the local rack via cross-connects.
* Patch Panel Termination: Manage copper (RJ45) and fiber (LC/SC/MPO) patch panels. Perform "light-checks" using Visual Fault Locators (VFL) to trace paths through multiple patches.
* Media Conversion: Deploy and troubleshoot media converters or transceivers when transitioning between different physical media types.
* Remote Management & Console Access
* Out-of-Band (OOB) Setup: Configure and cable Terminal Servers (e.g., Opengear, Lantronix, or Cisco ISR) to provide permanent remote console access to all managed devices.
* Serial Connectivity: Troubleshoot baud rate mismatches, roll-over cables, and DB9-to-RJ45 adapters to ensure the NOC has a reliable "backdoor" during outages.
* Local Support: Be prepared to connect locally via laptop and serial-to-USB adapters to provide a "live stream" of boot sequences or BIOS-level troubleshooting.
* Advanced Routing & Switching Knowledge
* L1 Fundamentals : Strong working knowledge in ethernet , Gigabit Ethernet, Serial , fiber cabling, transceivers (Arista, Cisco SFP+, QSFP+), SFP, PIC, NIM, HA ports, power supplies, patching and troubleshooting, with knowledge of DWDM and experience in handling 10/20/40 Gig Fiber links
* L2 Fundamentals: Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, VTP, and Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Port mirroring, packet captures. Must understand how to identify and resolve broadcast storms or physical loops at the rack level.
* L3 Fundamentals: Assist in the bring-up of Layer 3 interfaces (SVIs and Routed Ports). Basic knowledge of prefix lengths and IP addressing to verify gateway connectivity.
* Protocol Verification: Use CLI commands to verify BGP and OSPF neighbor adjacencies after physical circuit hand-offs or cross-connect installations.
* EtherChannel/LACP: Provision and troubleshoot Link Aggregation Groups (LAGs). Ensure that physical cabling matches the logical member-port configuration on the switch.
Required Experience & Skills
* Experience: 6-8 years in a Data Center or large Enterprise campus environment.
* Ethernet, Fiber cabling, Hardware : Experience in installation of ethernet, fiber cabling on Cisco, Arista and Palo Alto, F5 load balancers and its associated components like SFP, PIC, NIM, DPC
* Routing and Switching: Ability to navigate Cisco IOS, NX-OS, PAN OS or Arista EOS to perform show commands and basic interface configurations.
* Tools: Proficiency with Visual Fault Locators (VFL), Light Meters, and Fiber Inspection Scopes.
* Certifications: CCNA or equivalent is mandatory; CCNP Enterprise (ENCORE) is highly preferred to demonstrate routing and switching proficiency.

Minimum Qualifications
* Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program. Relevant fields include Electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent academic certification.
* Foundational understanding of hardware engineering principles, including experience with hardware design and tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence, Mentor Graphics) and simulation software.
* Familiarity with hardware testing and debugging techniques using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.

Work as part of a world class photonics team on MEMS packaging of optical components and their integration into Cisco's volume transceiver products.
Cisco has developed a unique high-volume laser micro-package platform (LaMP) with MEMS-wafers fabricated at a Cisco supplier, specialized assembly and test conducted at in-house designed/developed assembly/test tools and processes that provide a unique opportunity for improvements spanning from design to volume production.
This multi-disciplinary position requires an in-depth understanding of MEMS fabrication techniques (bulk micro-machining) as well as more specialized methods for assembly and test of packaged optical components. The ideal candidate will have MEMS production-experience for photonic or sensor applications, familiarity with general semiconductor wafer processing processes and tools, and is proficient with advanced data analysis techniques.
Candidates are expected to work closely with Cisco's suppliers as well as Cisco's packaging and test teams to maintain and improve yields, performance, and reliability of critical photonics components by applying structured problem-solving techniques that leverage advanced data collection methods.
Qualified candidates are expected to be able to apply advanced problem-solving skills to uncover, root cause and drive corrective action across engineering and manufacturing organizations.
Your Impact:
● In-depth monitoring of MEMS supplier production performance and quality
● Support suppliers in setting up adequate production monitoring, quality control, problem solving, and continuous improvement practices
● Conduct failure analysis and physical characterization to root cause process and device failure modes
● Lead teams in resolving yield and defectivity issues in the MEMS and LaMP assembly lines
● Collaboration with Cisco experts on yield and performance improvement programs and structure supplier improvement projects to achieve these goals
● Problem solving of critical technical issues during LaMP production, NPI, and early production yield ramp phases
● Drive continuous improvement planning and implementation including validation
● Manage technical aspects of the change control process with the suppliers and internal stakeholders

Who You Are:

Meet The Team:
Work as part of a world class photonics team on the integration of Cisco's silicon photonics into our automated, high-volume packaging line. Our high-volume packaging line uses in-house designed/developed assembly and test tools and processes that provide a unique opportunity to seek modes of improvement that span from photonic chip design to optical assembly (i.e., integration of fibers, light sources, etc.). Advanced testing methods in combination with extensive data collection allow us to gain insight into interactions between materials and processes that drive improvements in product quality and overall capability of manufacturing technologies.
This multi-disciplinary position requires an in-depth understanding of silicon photonics, optics, lasers, single-mode fiber-optics components (fiber arrays, optical multiplexers and demultiplexers, etc.), fiber-optic communications system, single-mode optical-alignment/packaging and advanced data analysis techniques (preferably using SAS jmp).
Qualified candidates are expected to be able to apply advanced problem-solving skills to uncover, root cause and drive corrective action across engineering and manufacturing organizations.
Your Impact:
● Lead teams in resolving yield and defectivity issues in the line related to final integration of photonic components in high volume manufacturing
● Help define/improve standards and design rules (i.e., design for manufacturing) for assembly of silicon photonics products
● Work with tool and development engineers to fundamentally understand complex interactions that arise when integrating the individual components that comprise silicon photonic based transceivers.
● Build engineering dashboards and monitors to track yields, defectivity and other quality and performances issues to direct efforts to improve optical components packaging tools/process.

* Non-exempt employees receive 16 days of paid vacation time per full calendar year, accrued at rate of 4.92 hours per pay period for full-time employees
* Exempt employees participate in Cisco's flexible vacation time off program, which has no defined limit on how much vacation time eligible employees may use (subject to availability and some business limitations)
* 80 hours of sick time off provided on hire date and each January 1st thereafter, and up to 80 hours of unused sick time carried forward from one calendar year to the next
* Additional paid time away may be requested to deal with critical or emergency issues for family members
* Optional 10 paid days per full calendar year to volunteer
For non-sales roles, employees are also eligible to earn annual bonuses subject to Cisco's policies.
Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components, subject to the applicable Cisco plan. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:
* .75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;
* 1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;
* 1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and
* Once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.
For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay 0% up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.

New York City Metro Area:
$223,000.00 - $330,300.00
Non-Metro New York state & Washington state:
$217,200.00 - $315,300.00
