1990

1990: The company opens a second store in the Phoenix metro area.

1994

Cold Stone Creamery began franchising in 1994, and the result has been that Cold Stone Creamery is an iconic brand all over the world.

1995

In 1995, Cold Stone Creamery opened its first franchise store in Tempe, Arizona.

1997

1997: Cold Stone Creamery's headquarters double in size and move to Scottsdale, Arizona.

2000

2000: Doug Ducey becomes chief executive officer.

2001

2001-04: Steady and Widespread Expansion Through Franchising

2002

Domestic sales of ice cream amounted to $20.5 billion in 2002, of which $12.5 billion was spent on frozen confections consumed away-from-home.

2004

By 2004, the company's annual socials had raised $1.1 million combined for Make-A-Wish.

As stores were quickly opening, others were closing: in 2004, for every 100 stores that opened, three closed.

"They were declining as early as 2004, which is quite ominous," he said. "While the company was able to establish some early growth, it didn't appear the growth was to be sustained."

2005

The company entered 2005 with more than 900 stores in 47 states, another 1,000 units in some stage of development, and ranked 12th on Entrepreneur magazine's "101 Fastest-Growing Franchises" list.

2006

In January 2006, the company was named the 11th fastest-growing franchise by Entrepreneur magazine.

By 2006, the year before the sale, 28 stores closed for every 100 that opened.

2007

However, in September 2007, Ducey announced he was leaving the company.

2008

Ducey has blamed the recession,which economists say started in earnest in 2008, for the store closures and the sales dispute.

In 2008, Cold Stone opened its first European franchise in Copenhagen, Denmark.

2009

In June 2009, the company opened its first locations in Canada.

2012

As of 2012, three stores had opened in Singapore.

2013

Blackwell was named CEO. In 2013, the Serruya family, based in Toronto, Ontario, purchased a majority interest in Kahala and changed the name to Kahala Brands to better align with the focus of the business.

2015

In March 2015, Cold Stone opened its first location in Turkey's capital Ankara.

2020

On January 3, 2020, Cold Stone Creamery announced that it would close its doors on January 31, 2020 in Singapore.
